Pretty stupid bout Axis guys. I think they're beautiful animals! I'm thinking about hunting one. What is the benchmark, top end(in inches)for a true trophy of the species. Thanks guys.

That's a nice deer BMD. We usually tell our hunters 35+ and average around 37". But if you can find a solid 35 like the one posted above with good cottles and mass then you won't need big mainbeams. Just remember length isn't everything, you want a deer that's well rounded.

From what I remember of the heard we had on our lease they Mated year round, although I never really saw fawns from Nov-Feb.

There would always be males with and without horns and in velvet and not in velvet.

I also always remember HARD HORNS would have Does and Fawns around it and Velvet Axis would be alone or at the back of the heard.

About 70% of the axis in any herd will be in hard horns from June till around Dec. The rest will be in the rest of the year. Here are 3 that a friend of mine has taken and they range from 35"-37"+ in length.

Those are some beautiful mounts and I would be very pleased with any of the three. Congrats to the hunter. Thanks for posting the photos, Baker

I'd love to take one like whats on that wall.
Im just worried about dishing out the money and not being happy with whats on the ground.
I can judge whitetails, but have no idea on axis.
