My lease is about 10 miles east of Garden City towards Sterling City off of 158.

Normally you could expect great hunting - big deer with good racks. This year, if your lease does not burn, you can expect some pretty poor deer. My trail camera pictures have been disturbing and disappointing. Malnourished deer and small antler growth. I am lucky enough to have water on my ranch but the forage is burned up.

We are feeding corn and protein, but there is no way we can afford to give the deer what they need on the 3,600 acres that I lease.

It is going to be a tough 2-3 years. In the long term you are hunting a pretty good area. Just hang in there.

Did I make your day?

Use as many trail cameras as you can at water, and feeders. There are some awesome deer that come from that general area. When you come down talk with some of the locals about the deer that come from the Sugg, Cope and Rocker B, Those ranches are some of your nieghbors.

I've hunted several ranches in the area and currently help manage one 2,600 acre ranch NW or Garden City. Unless your shelling out big $ on a feeding program rite now, the area lacks promise for this year. We're already on our 2nd 14-ton shippment of protein for this year as compared to last year when we used less than half of that. Typically, the area is GREAT for whitetails. We let many young 140-160 bucks walk last yr. Been taking anything 3.5+ that's not a main-frame 10 or better the past few years and it's paying off.
