Just wondering how many to shoot each day.Ive shot 30 today in 3 separate sessions. To be honest,my bow shoulder feels it,lol.Anyway,I dont want to sacrifice quality of shot, for quantity.Being new to bowhunting,I would think that as I get a little fatigued,I could create bad habits.Any truth to this?

I try to shoot around 5 to 6 arrows a day even if its just standing in my garage shooting a bag target ten feet away just to keep using those muscles. Tired muscles teach bad habits and form.

When I was completing on a national level I shot four hours a day and eight on Saturdays if I wasn’t competing, but I’m laid up with a head injury from a car wreck in Illinois two weeks ago, I doubt that I’ll be shooting many hours at a time until hunting season. If you want to be good you have to work at it, to me 20- 40 arrows does not give me the time to spend working on what area I will be working on at practice that day. The proper practice is important as well if you ever want to complete beyond the occasional 3-D shoot. I done a lot of exhibition shoots with targets 75 yards plus, and that takes lots of practice. I hope to get permission from my doctor next week to travel to my lake house at Possum Kingdom if I get permission to travel and shoot, I’ll be practicing some long shots, maybe not for a long period with this brain injury, but at least work on muscle memory. For the archer that is simply into archery to bow hunt and is satisfied where he is, 20-30 arrows on weekends is sufficient, he can take a deer at 25 yards, and that’s okay. It’s all about the individual and where he wants his level to be, I’ve been shooting over 40 years and a way of life.

I use to shoot alot more but just haven't motivated myself in awhile...100 plus heat at sundown does that! Easing back into some shoulder and arm tone and would like to get back to 50-75 arrows a day routine.

I wish I could get out and shoot every day. I try to shoot at least 20 or as many as I can before I get tired

Well I can say that the last two years you've shot a lot more than I did with all the darn travels I do now. When we first met and I had sponsors out the gazoo and shooting a lot I wore out several strings on each bow a year, I'll get back into it when I cut back on the traveling. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll start them flying again and work on some distance shots again. We need to get to together again and do some more, I still want to get out west and shoot your range .

With todays compound bows and high tech sights, I really don't see the need to shoot more than a few arrows a week. I have been bow hunting for awhile now and the challenge of hunting with a bow is NOT the shooting, it is getting the opportunity and in the position to shoot.
Hunting with a bow is definitely a challenge, but I never saw the challenge in the shooting, but more in the planning on where to hang my stands, getting the wind just right, and being in the right place at the right time.
Practice when you can, shoot as many arrows as you want to until you get tired or bored with it, and take care of your equipment.
I have found that the practice I do need is not alot of reptitive practice at a 3D range, but rather practice shooting out of tree stands or ground blinds as the season gets closer. I have always thought that shooting out of ground blinds was tougher than out of a tree. I would recommend practicing out of a ground blind if you intend to shoot out of one. I have just started hunting out of those the past two years because of where I am hunting (no large trees) and I do NOT like shooting out of those things.
One other piece of advice I will give - make sure your bow is properly tuned WITH the arrows and broadheads you will use to hunt. Do NOT tune or sight it in with field tips.

I try to shoot at least 3-4 times a week. The least I will shoot is 6 arrows and then when I do have time I will shoot until I start feeling fatigues, usually after about 18 arrows I will call it quits. I can only shoot 25 yds at my house so I just concentrate on perfecting my form at 20yds. Usually on the wknds I go out to my inlaws and I will shoot further distances there. I did shooot about 100 arrows yesterday. Not all at once but 6-12 at a time and we shoot all day long.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

You said you are new to shooting a bow. When I first started I shot 30-40 arrows a day to train the muscles to pull a bow that you never use otherwise. If your hunting (not shooting comp.), there's really no reason that you should shoot your bow any more than your rifle. Of couse, shooting arrows in the backyard for fun is possible fro most and a lot cheaper!

40-50 once a month. Before season I shoot 20 or so twice a week.

I shoot about 50 arrows 2-3 times a week. With the wind the last few weeks though, I haven't been shooting near as much.
Before season, I'll go back to shooting 100 or so per day.
It's not the aiming that I'm so concerned with, it's holding a draw for over a minute that I don't want to be short on.
I try to hold it for a count of 10 before I aim and release each arrow as it gets closer to season.

I was shooting about 100 a day recently but I can't hardly move my wrist so I am down for a few days and will get back into it slower next time.

I usually shoot 24-48 arrows a day during the week, and it all depends on the weekend. If I am shooting 3D, I shoot more, if I'm busy I don't shoot at all.

I guess I take a different approach. Unless your competing the only truly important arrow you shoot everyday is the first one; with few exceptions you only get one shot at game so everything else is rehearsal for the first shot. That said try going out and shooting one arrow at different yardages from your hunting setup (if possible) several times a day. Each time is the shot that counts on that animal. Then if there's a problem you work to correct it with more shooting. The conditioning point that's been made is very valid, you can do a variation of bent over rows or use one of the band systems on the market to work on the strength and endurance part and it's not 100 degrees in the house. I shot 3D for years when that meant cardboard cutouts so my form is still pretty solid, it's kind of like riding a bike in that respect but the one shot routine makes you really focus on it because there is no next one. Just my .02.

I shot 10 bolts last night (2 at 20, 30,40,50 & 60) and they were all dead on the money. I was glad to see my StrykeForce Crossbow held it's zero over the winter.
Bring on the cooler weather.
