I just got on a new new lease near Dilley. The blinds are all elevated and the senderos are really tight. there are really no open fields to hunt. How do I call predators? Should I hunker down in the brush and use a shotgun? Sit in the blind and use an electronic caller and a decoy?

I'm not exactly the voice of experience in Texas, since I'm new here, but I did sneak in a bit of calling in some tight brush country down in South Texas after a deer hunt a couple of years ago. Just sat on a corner of the intersection of two senderos and put the caller on the opposite side (taking wind into consideration). Only had time to make 4 stands, but called in two gray fox and two bobcats. (Cats came in after dark). Used my pet predator rifle.

How far away was your caller?

I use the derad coyote choke tube and there dead coyote shells and have taken game ouot to 60 yards...NP
Good thing about getting in brush your not restricted to the stand. guess what im saying is if you sit in the brush i would use a shotgun with the right choke for your stand. close quarter shooting can be fast..(take plug out and keep to 00buck for pigs). In the stand take both. you will be able to get away with more movement..if its a box blind.

I hunt over in Charlotte, about 30 miles east of dilly or so. I call from deer stands if i have the opportunity. Also just drive around in the jeep and stop and call. Have about the same success rate with the yotes with both setups. If you want bobcats, just call from the stands. I find they usually hang around feeders to try and get dove or quail that come to eat the corn. You usually want to be elevated down in that neck of the woods, all our jeeps have racks on them.

Do you use an e-caller and a decoy?
