I hunt to have a great time with friends/family and take in the entire experience regardless if I am waterfowl, upland or deer hunting.

With that, I like to set realistic goals in all areas....hunting included. Has anyone established a set inch mark they would like to reach (LF whitetail) in their lifetime? Mine was the 170" mark with a bow.

Not really hung up on the score end of it as much as how the buck looks and his he mature. LF or HF or rifle or bow or crossbow, it does not matter to me as long as I can hunt and it is still fun.

as stated above i dont care about score, if the deer looks good and is mature im gonna try and harvest it. 120 or 170 its all the same in my book. ive 120 class deer that people have shot, and its more of a trophey to them than any 170 is to other people. its just fun being out there in the woods.

I agree with shooting only mature deer and having fun.....most years I eat a tag and not shoot great bucks due to them benefiting from a little more age.

I guess the question should have been what would you consider a realistic life time buck?

I would have to say anything above 150 class (LF). I have shot several cull bucks and does but never shot a mature buck that had any great measurements, I think the largest was a 7point that was 6yrs old.

may your shoot hit its mark

I guess I would like to shoot another 7x7 typical then. I have killed one and would love to take another or really heavy horned 6x6 as I have never killed one.

to be perfectly honest, my deer of a lifetime would be to rattle in a 170in deer and shoot him, in south texas.

high fence or low fence, would't matter to me.

My bucket list buck:
Mature, tall racked, mostly typical (a drop tine or a few kickers are fine) and one that my management practices have produced! 160" inches or better would suffice just fine.

what did the 7x7 score?

Mid 170's gross be he would not count because it was HF in this scenario. But I counted him and look at him everyday.

Anything 150 or better is a mega-trophy in my book, but then again, I have never shot a WT that topped 130.

I would like to shoot both a non-typical and typical LF that would make the BC book.

Other than that I look for mature deer and more often cullbucks

shooting a 140" 10pt LF doesnt do it for me anymore I would MUCH rather shoot a freakish cull buck and keep the other tag handy should that Booner walk out.

if I ever kill a 160 gross whitetail on my families property, I just might be done hunting. 8 points or 14, doesn't matter to me as long as it's a home-grown buck on family owned land.

i feel that I'm well on my way to this goal...im 23 and have killed a 126, 133, and 146. My dad killed a deer that disappeared for two years before the skull was found. After 2 years of drying, the buck grossed 144. I think 160 is possible!

by the way, "family owned land" is 650 acres in Hamilton County and 220 acres in Mills county....all low fenced. feed corn and little protein and plant an oat field every year for the deer.

170 has always been my goal with a bow. After hitting that mark in 2010, my new goal is a gnarly non typical with lots of mass!

Same here but prefer to work my up to it. My father's largest was close to 140, and probably around 130 with a bow. He went to Kansas and shot this deer with his bow...he still loves to hunt but last year he videoed three 150" or better from his bow blind. Not sure I am ready to be at that point just yet.

This one scored 189 and some change.
