Anyone ever hunt either of them? Or Poulter or Turk as well for that matter? How was it? These ranches are all located outside Sheffield (Terrell County).

Nobody? I hunted these ranches in the early and mid 90's. Took my first deer off of the Lindsey when a friend had it leased and just found out the Lindseys are my cousins and was wondering if the deer hunting is still what it used to be in that area. I saw some really impressive bucks taken off of these ranches back in the day.

A lot of the condition of the deer just depends on the year in question. Last year there were some good deer coming out of this area, as the rain was plentiful for our area. This coming year may be a totally different story as the first appreciable rainfall since last July fell day before yesterday. It is always dry out here, but in excessively dry years, the quality of headgear on deer really shows the type of year we are having in regard to rain.

I know the area fairly well and have hunted the Poulter in years past. This ranch sold to the Crenwelge's from Comfort area. Lindsay still has the Packingham as far as I know. Yes, there are some pretty good deer in that area and some of those guys were doing a little supplemental feeding. I think that Rocky Dean gave up the lease on the state land last year. This is my favorite country to hunt whitetails in all of Texas. One, there is little hunting pressure on these bigger ranches and a higher percentage of mature bucks, very few high fences and really fun terrain to spot and stalk which is my preferred method of hunting.

Yea, the Lindseys are my cousins. They still have their ranch (the Packingham I assume) and are leasing the Rocky Dean as well now. I hunted the Poulter when it was leased by Scott Sybert in the mid-late 90's as well as the small section of the Turk that is on that same side of the road. Lindsey was a no-feeder ranch back in the day and it was great. Get on top and throw rocks down headers and see what runs out the other end. I had great times on those ranches but only recently found out that the Lindseys are family so I was wondering if it still had the quality deer it had back then.

Hunted Independence Creek until 2001 or 02. Area up until that time was great. South of Dean and TXU land.

I recently moved back to Big Spring from Sheffield where I had lived for a few years. I have hunted the Independence Creek place for a number of years helping to reduce their doe population. There have been some huge bucks come off that in the last few years. The University land that Rocky Dean had leased is now in the possession of Max Schneemann. His son spent quite a few nights at the ranch with us. There have been large bucks taken from there as well. A lot of that country burned but I think it was north of the Packenham and University land. Like everywhere else, it is very dry and I expect the horns to reflect that this year.
