Thinking of constructing and setting up some pig pipe feeders.

What size pipe? What size holes? Just use heavy pvc, right?

I think I've got the drive a t-post..... make a connection that makes it rotate and roll around.,,,, Secure with chain part down.


Suggestions anyone?.....pics anyone?.....experiences good or bad?


Setting up a game cam whenever I do the final install.....Gonna be fun!

We don't have a lot of pigs on our lease. I set one up anyway to see what would happen. It took 3-4 days for the pigs to find it. Then it was mostly nocturnal visits. They definitely work.

I made mine out of 4" Sched. 40 PVC. Drilled 5/8" holes about every 18" spiraling around the pipe, about 8 holes in a 6' pipe. six feet will hold about 40 lbs of corn, just spread the rest around to get them in.

Starting from the T-post it consists of steel ring, split chain link, swivel, split chain link, 18"-24" chain, split chain link, swivel, split chain link, toggle bolt (double nutted so it swivels through pipe cap), screw on pipe cap, 6' of 4" PVC, glued on butt cap. Clear out any heavy brush where the pippe will rotate around the T-Post, don't worry about the small stuff it will be down to dirt soon after the pigs find it. I also put a handful of small rocks, bigger than 5/8", so when it was empty it would sound like something was still in it and they would keep checking it until I could fill it again. There are lots of ways to do it, this works for me.

Pig pipes are excellent tools in the quest for hogs......you can even nap in the stand because you will always know when they are around. We do 5' pipes only 4 holes 3/8" to 1/2" don't want too much falling out....... they will stay sometimes for hours to empty em.. also if you do multiple pipes in a line you can track the ones w/ greatest activity and hunt those first.

There are some trees in the area.....I'm gonna soak some old carpet strips in deisel and bailing wire them to the trees to try to draw them to the pipe....also, I'm thinking of hand throwing a little corn just to get some interest......I eventually want to set out some solar lights since I figure they will wait till night to hit the pipe

What are ya'lls thoughts......set it out, get them accustomed and then add lights? or set up everything at once?

Set one up relatively close to camp. You can hear the pigs going at them at night as you're sitting around the fire and put a stalk on them.

I use 3 holes that are 5/8" in a 5' pipe and that's plenty. Use heavy gage pvc, and over-engineer the chain/cable/swivel. That is the weak link. Expect to find it pushed 50' back in the nearest sticker bushes if it comes loose.

suggest that you make both ends of the pipe with threaded caps.
i made mine with only one side threaded and put the eyebolt on the other end.
within a month, the pigs had rattled the nut loose on the eyebolt and ran off with the tube.

We have set up pipes at the ranches we hunt with great effect. The game cams showed the pigs moving them from one side to other all night. They're easy and cheap to make too.
