Well I finally got up off my lazy butt and started to work on Project Duck Boat. I've had the parts to take it this far for almost a year now and I did it all in one day. So far we have spent $75 for a boat, got the trailer free, $27.99 for an Optronix water proof trailer light kit,$41.99 for a front support bunk, and $14.99 for 12 foot of brown bunk padding, plus about $20 for S & H from BPS and we have spent a grand total of $179.97... Oh I forgot $14 at the local lumber store for hardware and two 8 foot treated 2 x 4's for new longer bunks so that brings us to $193.97.....Next we disassemble the whole thing and start prepping for paint....
Here's the photo's of what happened today.....
New bunks installed with new hardware....

New bunks with carpet...

The winch post before mods......

And after......

New mid support bunk installed......

Ratchet tie downs installed.....

Done for the day.....

My helper trying out the new rig......

Wow, that's coming along really well! I wish I were that handy, or at least had someone in the household with those skills!

That comes from 30 years of bending wrenches for a living in fast paced production environment...Now if I could get my wife to duck hunt!?!?!
On the flip side, my 9 year old daughter is begging me to take her duck hunting this year because her brother is off to college and she sees the spot opening up. I'll probably let her tag along at first to see how she reacts and if she decides it's for her we can sell her 3D competition bow she's never shot and buy a youth model shotgun.
She came back from Abbi's water adventure yesterday; she took the pictures, and wanted my wife to order her a set of waders. Dance may take a back seat to duck season. If I get her addicted to this sport my wife is probably not going to like it but she'll get over it....

I love those old break away trailers.

Good for launchin' in the skinny!

Thought for the day: Ducks were almost hunted to extinction long before camo was invented.

Sounds like youth weekend would be a perfect opportunity for your girl. My boy finished his last youth season last year and my daughter wants nothing to do with hunting, sooooooooooo......... I'm accepting applications for youth weekend. grin

OK now we worked on the boat this morning. Tore out that rotten transom......
This is what we started with.....

Half way their......now to just put it back

The wood thickness is about 1"...thinking about two layers of 1/2" treated plywood glued together to replace it....

From the back side.......

Any ideas on what fasteners to use to replace these aluminum rivets with?....Need something that won't rust...or leak!

I used galvanized nuts and bolts. Put washers on both sides with a dap of silicone caulk and you will be water tight.

Well we worked on "project duck" boat some more today. I have the transom almost complete and a new hitch istalled on the tongue of the trailer. I haven't been in a real big hurry to finish it because of the lack of water to use it in. I'm going to try to finish it just in case. I'm still under $300 for the whole project; boat, trailer, and everything. I got the wood for the transom from a buddy of mine that works in highway construction, he give me two discarded highway signs made from 1/2" treated plywood that were still in really good shape. Bought a tube of silicone and some 1/4 - 20 hardware for 10 bucks and installed it all today. Had to use two layers of plywood to make it work out right but that turned out to be thicker that the 1 inch plywood that was there originally so I am having issues with the transom kicker brace, but I'll work that out too.

Glad to hear you have been making more progress.

Were you able to get a title with that boat? If not, I wouldn't buy the mudmotor you were looking at.

All in all looks good, and thanks for the update!

Yep I got a title with it too. I'm thinking about going with the cheapest outboard I can find just to close the project out on the cheap and then later adding the mud motor. Right now I have a Minn Kota 36 pound thrust trolling motor that I got for free but I am going to try to find a 5 to 9.9 hp outboard on the cheap to replace that with.....
