I am looking at a lease in Cass County near Linden. I have not hunted in this area of the state before. What is a fair price per acre for leases in this area? Anyone have much luck bagging large bucks in this area? Thanks for the help.

Unless it has changed from several years ago when I hunted Cass Co. don't expect any big deer (does or bucks). I also had a lease just outside of Linden with lots of deer but all were small. Very high ratio of does to bucks, maybe 25-1, I was lucky to see a buck each season. If AR's help then maybe that has changed.

Deer are fairly plentiful just not real big, lots of poaching in that part of the world.Monday through Friday there could be locals hunting your stands. We had a lease near Atlanta S.P.found cases in our blinds ,walked up on a guy crouched down in a pinoak flat, etc. They know when you aren't there.

We've had a lease in Cass county south of Atlanta for the last 14 years. We have only taken 5 big bucks in 14 years, 143"-169". We see one and some years two big bucks. If your a meat hunter its a great county to hunt, does everywhere. We are lucky as one of our member lives across the street from the gate, so poaching is not to bad. The AR has helped some but not a lot. We are hunting 450 acres have 3 members and pay $5 per acre. Good luck in finding a quality lease.

There's plenty of big deer in Cass County, but like many places in East Texas it is hard to hunt and bucks are mostly nocturnal. Plus you will probably not see a mature buck if you are watching a deer feeder. I've hunted the south west corner of Cass County for the past 4 years and have taken 2 good bucks. One of them scored 155. Leases are relatively cheap in that area too. Good luck finding what your looking for.

there are plenty of nice bucks in East Texas. Just put in the time in the stands and don't waste your time hunting over feeders. That is a hard thing for alot of hunters to understand - big bucks don't make a habit of going to feeders in the daylight. Plus, they like acorns better than corn.
Plant you some food plots and put up your stands on the travel routes from the bedding areas to the plots. The mature bucks will move along these routes. Also, set up some stands around acorns. Those are the best "feeders" in the East Texas woods.
Feeders in East Texas just don't work as well as in other parts of the state.

Sorry if I came across as abrasive, when we hunted there was back in 83-84 back then it wasn't a felony to poach a deer, just put a lock on your stand if possible you'll be fine.
