Had three jakes walk by me and I shot one with my 22,must have hit something vital, cuz he dropped and didn't move much. The funny thing is, the other two, instead of running off, came back to their dying or dead buddy and started stomping on him!
Has anyone heard of this before and maybe have an explanation?
Usually, when you shoot, all the other game in the area disappears very fast. Oh, and by the way, I did get another while they were astomping.

Pretty common. Made me laugh the first time I saw it. Also had one knock my decoy over and stomp it mercilessly.

always check the regulations of where you are hunting. Espicially if you are hunting in a different state or public hunting area's.

Hunting on FT. Hood Texas with 22 is illegal. Shotgun or bow only.

Also...

Shotguns are the only legal firearm that may be used to hunt Eastern turkey during the spring Eastern turkey season. Rifles and handguns may not be used.

Happens often with Rios and Easterns. Probally with the other species as well.

Yep I've seen it several times.
I've seen them do some strange things...
My nephew "shot" one with a 410 one time, they all ran off but came back about 5 min later. The one he had shot at came limping back with a toe shot off!

I've had it happend and seen it happen several times. In fact, I had it happen this year. I took a friend that had never been turkey hunting. I advised him of that exact scenerio playing out if two toms came in and to sit tight if I shot one. I called in two jakes and two seperate two year olds. I shot the strutter. I then handed him my gun and did a fighting purr. The other three birds ran back to my bird flopping on the ground. He shot his first turkey, and it fell dead on top of mine. Something he said he'll never forget. up

Congrats on your birds.

I took this video in 2007 by laying my camera on the shooting bench during and then following the shot.

In certain circumstances, sure it is. Even though a shotgun would have been easier, I have taken a Rio with my 22 mag before. Called in close and shot in the base of the neck. Here is an article on using 22 rimfires for Turkey.

Funny thing about getting older:
Your eyesight starts getting weaker but your ability to
see through people's BS gets much better.
