I don't think it's venomous. It's too long and narrow to be a cotton mouth, def not a rattler or copper head, at first I thought it might be a diamondback water snake but I don't think so now....I'll tell you what I do know.....it's dead.

Probably one of these bad boys just about to shed its skin...They are actually good to have around. The consume rodents, other snakes, and birds on occasion. Used to have one that lived in our barn when I was a kid. You could usually find him when we got down to the ground layers of square hay. If I picked up a bale and he was under it I just put it back and left him be, because I knew as long as he was around I wasn't going to pick up one of those bales and find a copper headed rattle moccasin, a rat, or a mouse.... http://www.freesnake.com/kin1.html

Its a copper headed rattle moccasin! Damn good thing you killed it! I am a firm believer of finding out what kind it is after it is dead!

I would of lost my mind if I seen that! No you wouldn't. You would've taken him on a field trip to Allsup's and named him Homer.

Look at the pupil of the eyes. If theyare slanted it is venomous. If they are round it is non-venomous.

Ya, the only time I will get close enough to see a snakes eyes is after he's dead. If I had a farm or a lot of land then I probably would have left him alone but I got three dogs, two of them are 8lbs so I figured that they might play with it.
I was guessing that it might be a rat snake but I don't really know enough about em to know.

looks like a rat snake, only thing to remember about them is they travel in packs of 5-10 usually... never more than 20
