So this year I decided to get into Deer hunting. What I want to know is this. I will be bow hunting and have a ground stand. Do I need to put the blind on the ground now and put out a feeder and keep corn in it year round or do I start just a couple of months before hunting season. I am on a lease and have picked out several spots that appear to be good and have tracks. Give a newbe some advice!

welcomeI would put up the feeder now and then put a trail camera on it to see what is using it. Then if the deer are there put a blind in early as you can to let the deer get used to it. Might put in a couple of blinds to hunt different wind directions also.

Feeding year around is not necessary. If the feeders are set up a couple of weeks prior to the season the deer will come in. I like the ground blind to be set a couple of weeks before you hunt it.

Watch the wind and practice. up

Good luck and keep us posted.

welcome to the forum.

X2 Since this a new place I would not wait until a couple of weeks before the season. I would go ahead and start a feeder and a camera. This way you still have time to move it around if necessary. Once you know the place a little better then you can wait to start feeding closer to season. Oh, and welcome

I agree with all the posts. But I would put the blind up 3-4 weeks in advance if you can and possibly find some natural brush/tree branches and "Brush" it in as good as you can. I find this helps out, especially if you only set it up a week or two in advance. I set up one of my ground blinds 2 weeks before opening day last year, and I saw that it took about 3 weeks for the deer to start coming back to the blind (Trail Cam Pics) the hogs didn't seem to mind but the deer seemed a little skittish.

At our place the feeders that get fed year round are the best on the lease.

IMO it kinda depends on if your lease has alot of deer or just a few. The more deer there are the less important the feeder is. If you're set up on a trail that lots deer use anyway, the feeder is just a bonus.
Now, what kind of ground blind do you have? If its a pop up type there's no use putting it up now because it'll just deterioriate in 5 months of Texas weather. If you're gonna build a wooden blind, or a natural materials blind, I'd get it done ASAP so the animals get used to it.

Here is my .02...

As far as the feeder goes, putting it up would probably be good my the middle/end of the summer....so the critters all get used to it. Using the feeder to dispense food it not really beneficial yet since there is plenty of food available (unless we get some killer heat). As for the blinds, put them up as soon as you decide on a feeder placement. YOU TO PRACTICE SHOOTING FROM THE BLIND. It is easy to shoot in the back yard/field with no obstructions. One little twig can force a awkward stance or deflected arrow. Trail cam(s) are a must. Research your deer movements well in advnce...
