There was a guy on our lease for awhile that used this system. He could put a a seriously sharp edge on a blade with it too! I think he used the diamond Lansky though.

I have both Lansky systems. Definitely spend the extra few $ and get the diamond stones. 25 degrees is good for hunting knives and 20 degrees works well on your Chefs knives.

Its a brand. Get a two sided dmt in fine/extra fine or red/green and spend your money on something else like a toe brace

I have 2 of the Lansky sets, one at home and one at the ranch. For me they work great.

It's a pretty good system, especially for the price. If all you're sharpening is fairly small blades (under 4") it'll probably work fine.
I think the Spyderco Sharpmaker is a more versatile system but it comes at a higher cost.

I have both the lansky and the Spyderco. The Lansky will put an edege on a knife in a hurry but like said before it does not work well on a larger knives. It is great for fixing an edege on a blade though. The Spyderco is great and easy but you have to be careful when you pull the blade through that the tip does not go past the edege of the stone. It tends to round the tip of the knife if you are not careful.

I have a lansky system that I hated for a long time, I've actually had two sets, the first I bought and the second i received as a gift. The other day though, I was told that I just didn't know how to use it, so I got on youtube and watched their instructional video. Now that I know how to use the thing, it works very well, at least to establish a repeatable angle. I'm still a good old fashioned whet stone guy, as I can get a knife shaving sharp with one. But now, I have a routine down. I use the whet stone most of the time, but when I get a seriously dull knife, here's what I do: Start with the Lanksy system and get a good edge/angle established, then polish it up on the fine whet stone till it'll shave the hair on my arm, then strop it on an old leather belt with polishing compound on the leather. Every knife I own will shave the peach fuzz of the back of your hand, even my kitchen knives.

I have the warthog knife sharpener and love it. So simple and can put a great edge in seconds.

Yep I agree on trouble with the longer blades, but with time spent in refining your method the Lansky will give you controlled and repeatable angle for the great edge you need. I also keep a short ceramic stick in the field pack to refine the edge after heavy field work. be sure and get the base and a new box of band aids.

Glad to hear all the positive responses. My Lansky is at he bottom of the hunting utility box. Never could master a really good edge. Sounds like I need the diamond stones. Always feels better to blame it on the equipment.
