I have shipped 2 lately and boxed them up and shipped Fed X. No problem. Fed X was cheaper than UPS.

FED EX shipped one for me a couple weeks ago. Tell them you are shipping a rifle and it is no problem. I believe the only thing is you have to send it overnight is their regulations.

Shhhhhhhh better to be quiet than remove all doubt..

You can ship it yourself, however you must ship it to someone that holds an FFL. You can ship it through the US Postal service also. I have shipped lots of weapons, and have had good luck with the USPS.

You can also take it to the Post Office as stated above, but it does NOT have to go to an FFL in state.

NOTE: This post is for RIFLES.

Rifles/shotguns shipped within TX are okay individual to individual. Handguns must go thru an FFL

I've heard from many guys that the Post Offices are real jerks about shipping long guns. On the other hand, I've heard nothing but good things about FedEx. If you go to the Post Office, be prepared for a healthy ration of BS. I know some guys that said they refused to ship for them because it was against the law. Remember...Post Office = Government Institution.

The only one I had problems with a few years ago was USPS. Nobody else even asked nor did I tell what I was shipping.

Key words "Nobody else even asked nor did I tell what I was shipping." I use UPS and FEDEX daily, if you box it yourself, they wont ask you whats in it, you can even print shipping labels online and then drop off at one of the local shipping stores, no questions asked.

I have not had anyone ask. Why give out more information than is needed. The problem I had with USPS was that I wanted to send a rifle back to Ruger for repairs. I wanted to use the box it came in that had Ruger firearms printed on it. I had to wrap the box so that there was nothing about the box containing a firearm printed on the outside.

It is against the law to not tell them. This is straight off of the ATF website.

Q: May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?
A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.

Thanks for posting that again TT. I really get peeved at the the posts that always show up in these threads encouraging folks to break the law and put themselves in jeopardy with the BATF, which has NO sense of humor.

And besides, do you send off your guns uninsured? When you want to add extra insurance, they *always* ask what is in the box that is to be insured. I don't ever send off a $500 without throwing some additional insurance on it in case it ends up missing or otherwise.

So if you lie about what's in the box, UPS/FedEx is going to deny your claim when the truth of the matter comes out. You'll be minus a gun and minus money to replace it.

Just follow their guidelines and all will be well. I've never had any problems shipping a gun AND telling the lady at the shipping counter what was in the box.

So let me get this straight. You go strikly by the law. So when the ATF says you have to turn in all your guns you are going to be the first one at their office to hand them all in. Then when you find out your neighbor doesn't want to give up his you are going to run down there and turn him in because it is the law. Where is a good bag of popcorn when you need one?

Come on don...apples and oranges guy. You just keep doing it your way. The odds are against you in the long run. I just don't think I would be advising others to do it. Different strokes.

And.....nobody is going to get my guns.

Whoa...Now THATS a stretch...Thats not even REMOTELY what Bob is saying...It's not brain science or rocket surgery here...

The law says when you ship a fiream, you must notify the carrier OF SAID FIREARM...really not all that difficult...You tell USPS/FedEx/DHL...I am shipping a shotgun...They say OK, that wil bee $xx.xx or they say...sorry we don't allow the shipment of firearms...so you go to the next carrier. Thats a much better scenario than them finding out about the firearm and the shipper NOT telling them about it...one is an "slight" inconvenience...the other is trouble...

+I have not advised anyone to do anything. I just stated what I do. And when does a law not become a law in your eyes?

Again Don, this is not a fair comparison...you are comparing a LAW vs an Ammendment...one that is in place (the Law) and one that is a "what if" scenario.

The government can't just "pass a law" stating we must give up our guns...the 2nd ammendment would have to be repealed. And I don't want to open a huge can of worms, cuz we all know the leftie libs are trying to "chip away" at our 2nd ammendment rights and we DO have to be on guard...but your comparison is a very weak one IMO.

I would bet if you asked 100 people on this forum IF your scenario happened and we were ORDERED to give up ALL of our guns...99 would say..."It ain't gonna happen"....but thats a scenario....much different than following a LAW thats in place now. There are many on here that have posted MOST of the carriers are ok with the shipments of guns...I just don't see the issue with letting them know you/me/we are shipping a firearm...The law says it's allowable...the shipper says they are ok with it...whats the problem in telling them about it.

Guess I just don't want to bring unneccessary scrutiny on myself when it's not needed...

I've shipped rifles and shotguns both in state and out of state by UPS and never had a problem as long as I go the the local hub to do it. The UPS Store told me that they couldn't ship firearms??? Anyway, I've even ask the clerk if they needed a copy of the receivers FFL for out of state shipments and they said no.

FYI-FEDEX refused to ship a handgun person to person in state yesterday at their main FEDEX office in San Antonio, even after calling the home office. It is against their company policy. I drove over to the main UPS office and they never even blinked. You still have to ship a handgun "Air", which in this case was $40.

Associated Press - July 11, 2007 2:35 PM ET

CHEVY CHASE, Md. (AP) - His lawyer says former Houston Rocket and Maryland basketball star Lonny Baxter will plead guilty next week to a federal gun charge.

Prosecutors say Baxter is accused of breaking the law when he shipped guns from Texas to Maryland last year when he moved.

Baxter is charged with using Fed-Ex to deliver four guns to College Park, Maryland, without notifying the carrier that the package contained firearms.

The crime is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Prosecutors do not allege that the weapons were illegal.
