A friend of mine said he saw a mother hen with about 7 chicks while hunting over the weekend. He said they should have been alot bigger than what they were. He showed me with his hands how big they were and I would say they would only stand about 10 inches tall.
I hardley know anything about turkeys and how big they should be at certain times of the year.
He asked me if I thought this was the hen's second set of chicks this year and I told him I have no idea but could ask on here.

Under normal circumstances they should only produce one clutch of poults in a year.

Something may have happened and the hen he saw re-nested and brought off a late clutch.

It was a wet year and quail and turkeys had a chance rehatch ther clutch. I saw 5 polts last weekend that where les than one month old. Central Texas was wet this year. Humidity is key for birds too hatch, Thats why they nest in the spring.

Humidity is a factor, increasing levels of daylight is a MAJOR factor.

Humidity is part of the equation, when it comes to getting eggs to hatch.

Increasing amounts of DAYLIGHT, is what gets birds to BREED.

No Breeding, No Eggs, don't matter how much humidity there is.

Old Joke: Definition Of Relative Humidity: How Wet Your Cousin Is!!!!

The major factor concerning re-clutching of turkeys has to do with time available.

Bobwhite Quail have an incubation period of 22 to 24 days, and the chicks can fly at two weeks or less of age and fend for themselves for the most part.

Turkeys have a 28 day approximate incubation period and the hen puts forth a lot more effort and energy to get her youngraised to the point where they can fend for themselves than does either a quail or a dove.
