I am really excited about dove and teal season comming up just had a few questions about decoys. Do you use them, if so, how many do you use in your spread? Do you use bluewing or greenwing or both? Do you put them in deeper areas or in the shallows?

We use decoys on our teal hunts. It don't take a whole lot though. I usually don't use more than a dozen. GHG makes a good looking teal decoy but they are in full plumage. When we hunt the teal in Sept. they are in the eclipse phase. I use more of the hen decoys but I've never seen where it really matters. Put your decoys where the ducks were the day before, this is a good rule for any type of hunting. I think you will find the rice burners like shallow water and lots of plant material. Calls work great on the teal birds. Use your pintail/wigeon whistle to make the drake call and the duck commander teal call sounds great for the hen sounds. Good luck!

What kind of decoys don't matter. Every good teal hunt I have been on is over in the first thirty minutes so it isn't really light enough to worry about color. On the other hand it is the other way around and you don't see them at all.
