Going on a paid weekend hunt this weekend in Hall county (Plaska, Tx just west of Memphis)for either a muley or whitetail and was curious if I am going at a good time? I read on TPW website that the rut is around this time but you never know. Never hunted this way before.

Hunted Hall County over the weekend and the whitetails seemed to be on lock down. I watched a buck breed a doe Friday evening and I saw little movement other than that and a couple of does with fawns still in tow, even with the cold front that came through.

The mule deer rut seems to be ramping up as I did see a couple of bucks cruising toward the middle of the day on Friday as well.

I don't think you're going at a bad time, but I think the you've missed the peak whitetail chase. Of course, you could get out there and find bucks dogging the does like there's no tomorrow. Good luck and let us know how your hunt goes. Also, if you wouldn't mind, PM me the price and details of your hunt. Thanks.

Hunted the Plaska Lodge in Hall County. Saw a couple 130 class 8's that I passed on and a good 10 point, 140 maybe 150, that was all busted up from the rut. Hunting was kinda tough and we had to leave just when the secondary rut was beginning. Long story short spent $2500 on a group rate and did not get anything. Will go back though.

Yep, that's hunting. How far away from the lodge were you hunting?

Hunted close to it, about a mile or two South of it.

I think the whitetail pretty much was 3ish weeks ago and full on last week. I’m not seeing any rut activity this week. I did however see a 8 year old mulie break bread and share his corn with a whitetail buck. We are in Turkey.
