Well, I know this is a beat down topic here, but I gotta get some opinions. Its that time of year when this topic gets heated. While walking our property this weekend we discovered our neighbor is a "fenceline hunter". He has a feeder about 10 yards off our fence with a blind pointing towards our property. To top it all off we find the skeleton of a 1.5 year old 6 point that appears to have been shot at that feeder and then hopped our fence and piled up under some mesquites on our side of the fence where he expired. The question is since our neighbor owns his land and this is going to be a permanent relationship how do we deal with this DB...?

plant a small garden on your side of the fence and put a motorized scarecrow up.

contact them and talk about it....... if that dont work then be a DB right back.....want to also state that i believe that if you own or lease land you should be able to hunt and use ALL OF YOUR LAND... including fencelines....but i dont agree with shooting towards fenceline....

With the same douchebaggery he does. Put a feeder on the fence right next to his. Put your stand up aiming right at his too. He'll get the picture.

Whatever you do just be civil about it. No need to wear out your welcome with your land onwer. Land owners talk, and they are willing to get rid of you bc you are replaceable just to keep the peace. But I would confront the guy and ask..

I agree with him being able to use all of his property and woudnt care if he was set up off our fencline hunting parellel to it. However the discovery of the deer skeleton and the gun fire coming on to our place makes me pizzzed.

x2 and if he does not move it then put a blind on your side with a radio on a timer that comes on at daylight.

I'd tell him that you've got kids that will soon be running wild out there...tell him that you don't mind that he's hunting so close to the fence but would prefer that he shoot away from your fence line...if that doesn't work put a feeder up right on the other side of the fence from his blind and put a sheet of flashing all the way around the bottom of the barrel, fill it with pea gravel...set the timer to go off every 10 minutes during prime hunting time...it makes a lot of racket...it's funny.

There is a regulation that pertains to situations just like what you mention above and it covers any situation where one fires their firearm or archery equipment towards property lines.

Restricted Methods
It is unlawful for any person, while hunting or engaging in recreational shooting, to knowingly discharge a firearm in such a fashion as to cause a projectile to cross a property line, unless the person owns the property on both sides of the property line or has obtained written permission from the owner of any land crossed by the projectile.


Talk to your neighbor and bring him/her the regulation, if that does not change the overall status of the situation, contact your local game warden to discuss the regulation and consequences it can have.

This comes up all the time. Seems like the most reasonable and most likely productive response it to talk it out. Acting like a DB will only make him act like a DB, and the cycle will continue.

Maybe place a hidden game cam facing that direction and you could be (un)lucky enough to catch him shooting your way.

Set a blind out there away from the fence run a road down the fenceline and use that spot as you walk in area.

Just try and meet the guy first and dont bring up the blind and feeder. You'll get a good feel what hes like.
If hes a jerk, dont waste your breath. Park your truck right at the fence line the rest of the season, or untill he gets the hint.

Every morning, go out early and put a cassette player in the weeds playing a continous loop of Old MacDonald Had a Farm. At least he'll have something to tap his feet to. If he shoots it or turns it off, you got him.

Honestly the mature way of dealing with this is to get in contact with him and voice your concerns. He may see eye to eye with you on the subject.


Now if he turns out to be a major DB, then like others said place a boxstand on your side of the fenceline facing away from his, and inline with his shot. If he cant see in your blind he would have to be crazy to take the shot not knowing if you were in there or not LOL.

I faced this dilemma. Just went and talked to the guy and we both agreed to back off the fence. Sometimes it depends the acreage though, if its 20 acres, fenceline hunting is tough not to do. He shouldn't shoot into your pasture though, no way.

You guys need to quit sweating this small stuff.

Is it the Land owners feeder?
Or is it leased to other hunters?

Chances are if it is leased...the Land owner might not even know about it.

Worse case call the Game warden. If that stand is faced towards your property with the chance of a bullet crossing your fence line (if the feeder is as close as you say it is)he is breaking the law.

Cowdog, as far as we know the land owner is the hunter. I think I have the GW's number I just didnt want to have to call. Problem is my family just bought our place and this guy has probably been hunting this spot for years. Im going to try to be polite about this but we will see how it goes.

I just got on a new lease and one hunter on the lease to the east of us has a tripod right on the fence. It's in the coner of a wheat feild. My blind is set up about 150 yards to his west. I will be hunting our property between me and him. I didn't know his tripod was there when i put up a blind, I am in the woods and hunting on our property and I think he is hunting his wheatfeild. I don't have a problem and I hope he don't.

Well that sucks. Best thing to do is ask him to move it to where he is not shooting across your fence.

or

Set up a ground blind in plan site in his shooting lane. Make him think twice about pulling the trigger.

Then again to some people it doesnt matter.
