You can get good bows used. I just don't like to. If you know the person then that is one thing if you don't. Well you might get someones trash. You never know how someone treats there stuff. Just make sure to check it out really good before you buy it.

A new boy might be the best way to go. You can find a new bow for about the cost of a good used one. Just my $.02

Unlike 99.9% of the guys here, I think a person should buy the cheapest bow possible IF he/she isn't sure they want to get into archery. Even a crappy, loud, inaccurate bow will tell you whether archery is something you want to pursue. I would check the pawn shops and get one for around $100 or less. Bear in mind, I may be the only guy on this forum that thinks that way but that's how I started and I'm going strong 30 years later with much better equipment now. A used bow is only the cost of a couple of tanks of gas so don't get too hung up on the $$. JUST MY OPINION!!!!!!

By the way, my wife shoots a Martin Jaguar and love it.

Nice Rack,
First figure out what your budget is. Then look at bows in that budget. If you decide to go new I can help you with some bows. PM me if you would like more details.

I'm on an island out of the country right now so connectivity is an adventure. Let me further explain my position on cheap bows. I feel that the reason we get involved in archery is not because we can plug the 10 ring at 50 yards. It's the romance of practicing an ancient "art", it's the facination of watching an arrow fly through thin air and magically impact near your Point of Aim. Any bow will tell you if that romance is real or just a passing whim. If it's real, your soul is lost and you've headed down the adventure that will last a lifetime. If it's not, you don't want to have invested a bunch of money in equipment that has far less value once it's used. Archery isn't for everyone. Don't spend a big chunk of change to find that you're not one of the devotees.

Wes, budget is not really an issue...I just don't want to spend a lot of $$$ on my first bow....I would rather spend less now to see if bow hunting is really for me...if things go well then I could buy new/better bow later.....the main reason I'm getting into bow hunting is cause my 2 boys (ages 4&6) don't like guns (at least right now)...they claim there to loud...both like to sit in the blind but I feel if I where to shot with them inside the would get scared and refuse to go hunting with me....also I do like the bow season for extra hunting...yes I know that while hunting with my 2 boys it will make it more of a challenge to get a deer in range for a bow....but its all about taking the out with me... thanks

One of the guys I used to hunt with would make special deer hunting trips out with his son that was about 5 years old. He wouldn't take his rifle and his little boy would take a BB gun. These trips were all about his son and introducing him to deer hunting. They would sit in the stand with treats, drinks, etc and when they would see a buck or doe at 100-200 yards, the dad would go through the whole routine of telling his son how to wait for the shot, squeeze the trigger, etc. EVERY TIME, after the shot, he would tell his son "I think you hit him" and they would get down to track for blood. At his young age, the boy never got disappointed in never finding his deer. I would give my right arm if I had gone to those types of efforts with my son.

Have a Martin Jaguar and am very happy with it. Bought it a couple years ago to serve as a backup but like it almost as much as my main bow (Razortec). I don't think you can go wrong for the price.

Recently bought a new Hoyt and don't really need two backups. Will make you a good deal on the Jaguar fully outfitted with a dozen carbon arrows if you decide to go the used route.
