I know someone who might be interested. However the No thanksgiving deal might be an issue. When you say reserved for family, are they hunting there during thanksgiving. My friend, might do a seasonal lease, but would be hard pressed to justify the price if 8 people are leasing it and you are giving hunting rights to family members.

Chuck, sorry to be so slow responding. Family only hunts during the week of Thanksgiving. They will only kill a buck if they see a really good one. Usually one or two bucks at max for the entire family family.

why does the lease end dec. 25th? what about the remainder of the season?

Thanks for the response, the guy is looking for a year round lease and he usually takes the whole week of thanksgiving off to hunt, so,,,. He is from Louisiana, and since he wants to hunt in Texas he is being really picky.

There is one more week of buck hunting, but family spends time at ranch the week after Christmas and does not want to worry about interfering with hunters. We kill does and hogs for meat. And cut cedar with chain saws - not conducive to deer hunting. Generally hunters have shot out by mid December at the latest.

No offense, but you shouldn't be leasing it then. It's amazing to me what people think is a good deal.

Why would someone pay that kind of money for a lease to feed the deer so the owners can come in and shoot them? Amazing

You would be amazed that this happens a lot. The problem is people keep leasing it. I looked at 3 different places this year that were exactly the same. Thanks but no thanks. Why not just keep it in the family instead of leasing? Why $1750 a gun when only get some parts of the hunting season? And they family will come shoot some of the deer? To each his own but IMO this is crazy.

we leased our ranch to hunters from florida.....we had it in the contract that we would shoot culls and does from opening day till thanksgiving....then its there turn. they december all to themselves, after that, they could come hunt, but we had the option to take a trophy in january

You must be in South Texas if your hunters prefer the latter part of the season. The rut starts in our area during bow season and usually wraps up around December 1. After that, the bucks are a lot harder to find in the daytime. Unless they are holding out for a really big buck they have sighted, our hunters have usually killed their 8 pt.+ plus buck before Thanksgiving. We have restricted the number of bucks taken from the ranch for over 15 years and it has paid off. The size of racks and number of bucks seen is not typical of many parts of the Hill Country. Our hunters pass up lots of bucks that many hunters would be happy to shoot. When they come back after Thanksgiving, it is usually for does.
We have never had any trouble leasing this ranch and the groups we have had have stayed on the lease for 5-10 years. A family taking one or two bucks off 1400 acres is nothing.
Like most of the Hill Country, there are too many does and too many hogs. Our hunters never kill enough and have never objected to us killing some does at the end of the season. We don't hunt the hunters blinds and feeders. No need to.
If Thanksgiving week is important to someone, then I understand. This place won't work for you. If you are looking for a place to hunt in the Hill Country with lots of good quality bucks and a chance to shoot at one in the 175-180 range, there have been two killed in that size range in the last three years (one on our place and one about 300 yards across our cousin's fence).

Forgot - only exotics are occasional sighting of Aoudads. No Axis or other breeds of deer or Blackbuck.
