Ok, I am in need of help. I am looking to buy my first Hunting Rifle. My husband is a hardcore hunter and I just use his BUT! I want to have my own. I am seeking advice on who a good maker is. I use my husbands Rock River Arms AR-15. I am looking for a bolt action. Probably in a 7mm-08, or .270. Any ideas?
As a matter of fact, I DO hunt like a girl!

Other than the VTR any Remington 700 is a good choice. Weatherby and CZ also have great reputations

Remington 700 in 270 would work fine on Texas Whitetails.

Yeah I really like Remmington. They make a great rifle. Just bought my first Shotgun a couple of weeks ago so I am really starting to get into the whole gun thing. I can't wait for dove season!

My fiance shoots a Remington 700 bdl in .270 with 130 gr. Hornady SST ammo. I had a Limbsaver recoil pad put on it and she LOVES to shoot it. She shot her first deer last fall in the panhandle and it ran about 15 yards and piled up.

Another vote for the Remington 700, I'll vote for the 7mm08 though.

I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, I'm just not familiar with that model rifle. I'm looking for a affordable .243 for my son so I'm paying attention to the recomendations posted here. Thanks a lot, John

FYI, you will get a lot of recommendations from whatever the poster happens to own around here. I would think a Rem mod 7 in .243 would be very good for most women and younger hunters or if you wanted to go a little cheaper route a Rem ADL youth .243 or possibly full size depending on your build.

Whats wrong with Tikka T3 or Sako A7's. Light and great shooters. I also think .308 is a better choice.

Thanks a lot, John A buddy had that gun and said it was junk, shot all over the place. There are quite a few different 700's so some of the other models would be excellent choices for your son

Yeah a .243 is nice and all but I want something with a little more take down to it. I can shoot my husband's R-25 which is a .308. And I have shot 30.06 and his 50 cal muzzleloader. I am not worried about price on the rifle because I want something that will last a long time with a very nice Nikon scope. I don't believe in going cheap on the important things in life.

Remember the R-25 is gas operated though. I agree %100 about not going cheap on rifle and optics though. If a .270 recoil doesn't bother you and a full size rifle fits you well the the Rem XCR that riflemen reccomended are super nice.

Ok well I am going to say I want stay under $1,300. I want something that will make the men (and my husband) be jealous at the range and in the woods.

For 1300 you can get a really nice setup. Truth is though a $4,000 gun and a $800 gun aren't going to be all that noticeable in difference if just using them for normal hunting.

Only problem is this is a woman asking, that rifle above is a 10 pound rifle without a scope or rings. You should get the Browning X-bolt Micro Hunter in 7mm-08, that should fit your bill, and it only weighs 6 pounds 2 oz.

Rem. 700 in .243 Win., 25-06, 7mm-08 Rem., 270 Win...all will work just fine. My preference would be 7mm-08.
