I've got what my sound like a stupid question about Scaup and Ringneck. this year i haven't shot more than 2 per trip of either species do to the fact they look very similar. the only way a can tell the difference in flight is by the bill but i would rather be safe than sorry.

So my question is can you shoot 6 Ringneck and only 2 Scaup or 1 Scaup & 1 Ringneck or so own??

this is what TPW said = 2 scaup (lesser scaup and greater scaup in the aggregate)

But there is nothing in there about Ringneck.

Thanks for the help.

Poor Mav...he would want 6 of both grin

I actually think the blackjacks are a pretty cool bird. I killed one in LA last week and really thought about getting it mounted. But decided my first mount is going to be a great looking greenhead.

their skin is just really tough, and kind of greasy. It's hard to seperate from the meat.

Very tough to clean, I do not like the taste that's why I try not to shoot them. However when a guest hunts with us they will shoot them sometimes, happened last Saturday but I did not clean his birds.

Good way to tell in flight, Scaup (bluebill) have the white 'speculum' or secondaries on the wings from the body to the wingtips. Ringnecks do not. Ill shoot either all day. Ringnecks have made the limit for me on more than a few hunts. I usually dont shoot both on the same hunt but it HAS happened...

Jerky/gumbo ducks for sure
