Quite a bit of early birds this morning. Along with early shooters. realmad Get settled in the blind and get buzzed by a few birds but couldn't get a shot. Three teal buzz by, called them back and the come to the hole. They all stayed. Didn't see that much the rest of the morning. Only a bigger flock off in the distance and 2 that were hightailing it towards the back of the property.

The three teal on the ice.

Picture of the hole that was taken later.

Had to throw Paxton a few birds.

Didn't see the Gaddie (the one that was left behind yesterday) earlier, but as it got lighter noticed it was still there but had moved in a bit closer.

Tried to use the path busted yesterday but still couldn't reach.

Busted a new path.

The ice was pretty thick.

As I was trying to get the bird had a group of 4 and another flock of 9 pass over looking for a spot. bang

Success!

Of course Paxton just had to carry it.

Headed to the car and as we were on the tank dam three teal flew right in front of me and went over the pond and tried to decoy to the cow patties that I was throwing at the Gadwall yesterday. rofl

After taking everything to the car. Decided to get the dog some work and off we went looking for snipe.

First one I missed with two shots as it was hauling butt away from me. Picked one up coming off of a mud hole near the hay. Had some shots on a few others on the back pond but passed as they probably would have landed in the middle of the frozen pond.

The take.

Nope, do you?

It's even sleeping in the window sill.

Next time it happens I'll have you come over and dispatch the bird and play retriever.

Glad you got your bird from yesterday and had a good hunt today. Sux that is laid there over nite and suffered but I remember reading yesterday you did everything you knew to do to try and get it.

I really wasn't expecting it to be there this morning. Figured one of the many birds of prey on the property would have gotten it long before then.

Yea sometimes I have to watch them. They've been in the way before while dove and duck hunting. One day a bunch of them walked up to check out the mojo.

You did nothing wrong Fooshman. You made the effort repeatedly. The ice was beyond your control.

Glad you ended up getting him in the end.

I concur that fooshman's story sounds like he did what he could. Not worth risking your life.
