I plan to leave the .270 in the closet and spend a little time with a shotgun hunting hogs. Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated! Here's my idea:
Remington 870 Express Magnum in 20 gauge Rifled choke tube (preferably extended tube?) Remington Buckhammer slugs
1: any suggestions for a standard or extended rifled tube that will fit said gun?
2: I am back and forth on whether to have the receiver drilled and tapped or use a b-square saddle mount. Have heard stories of the b-square mounts being made of cheap/light aluminum and either stripping out or pinching the receiver to the point that it strains, if not stops the action from working entirely...any experience out there?
3: Already have an extra scope laying around that would be sufficient.
Thanks for the feedback!

Stand to one side when you shoot. So the slug doesnt hit you when it bounces back!

is that a joke above me? i hope so...
i wouldnt mount a scope for that. are you using the slugs just for giggles from your deerstand? how far is it? i would try shooting some groups with the rifled choke at 25, then 50 yards and see how well you do. you may be surprised. if you going to be stalking (or you cna always just sit closer) you may switch to regular slugs and save some money if you run out. cyl works best for me with rifled foster type slugs and ive had decent luck with moderate choke with buckshot. pattern slugs and buck before hunting.
my benelli sbe has a 26in barrel and i used slugs once. good thing i patterned it bacause the recoil caused the muzzle to rise before the slug left the barrel and i shot 1.5 feet high at 50 yards. i had to shoot at hogs feet. good thing i have a short barrel for a nova now.

20 ga used to be my go to hog gun, and a lot of dead piggies can testify to its effectiveness.
Timbertoes- a 20 ga slug is 250 grains rolling out at 1,900 fps. That is hotter than any .44 Mag loading I am aware of, more than stout enough for any animal on this continent.
My suggestion would be to load the chamber with a slug and the rest with buckshot. Work in close to them (think bowhunting distances). Shoot the first with the slug, then get the runners with buckshot. You may have some squealers, but they usually hit the dirt if you put a shot between the running gear. Forget the rifled barrel, just buy the rifled slugs. They are fairly accurate (4" @ 50) and then you have the option of using buckshot or even bird shot out of the short barrel.

Thanks KC and Wyatt. No deer stand for me. I'll either be stalking, or possibly baiting and setting up a pop-up. Either way, would try to get as close as possible. My original plan was to just use buckshot, but after doing a little looking, it seemed like a lot of people don't think it will penetrate well enough (on a consistent basis). I'm treating this like I'm a complete newbie, as I've never hunted anything more than dove, quail, pheasant, and turkey with a shotgun...I'm relatively ignorant when it comes to buckshot and slugs. If I can get 4" groups @ 50 with cheap foster slugs, I might be willing to go that route since it gives me the option of buckshot for backup (then there's always the Beretta on my belt I guess!). I'm definitely not going to throw money at a fully rifled barrel, but a rifled tube is doable. I kinda thought I would go this route IF it would get me better groups/range in order to possibly use it for deer sometime...just for a change of pace I guess.
My initial thought was that if I could get close enough, I might not have to worry about getting rifle sights or mounting a scope, but then again, a single bead doesn't seem like it would be very trustworthy...no matter how good I am with it using birdshot. Plus, I have a scope laying around that needs a home. Any more thoughts are welcomed!

i noticed you are using sabots, good idea for long range. however save some money by a cheap box of 10 rifled slugs, and just use the shotgun bead.
also i like rlttu66 idea with buckshot! after that first slug goes accurate follow up shots gonna be a bear.
she said ,why does that ammo have pretty green tips on it? the guy said its the eco-friendy ammo.

I've used a 870 forever (can't use rifles to hunt where I was raised). Rule of thumb, rifled barrel 22-24" with sabots (Remington Copper Solids work best in mine)for anything over 65 yards. Scopes are nice but are harder to use for running/scattering game though and are almost useless at night. 2 3/4 load will suffice up to 125 yards, there's only marginal gain by using 3" mags over those distances but VERY noticable kick difference. Under 65 yards, smooth bore, rifled sights, Brenneke rifled slugs for first shot (again, they work best in mine), short barrel (easier to handle in brush and, under 65 yards, there isn't much difference in accuracy) with buckshot loads after that like KC said. Longer barrels are not more accurate in most cases, they just help to maximize muzzel velocity for longer shots (usually over 75 yards, think bird guns).
Remember, never shoot rifled slugs in rifled barrels! Sabots in rifled barrels, rifled slugs in smooth barrels. (never shoot buchshot through rifled barrels either). Test different loads, every gun is different, especially when it comes to shotguns.

Of course. Although one hog I shot with a 20ga slug wasn't fazed.

get some 000 Buck shot, then pour corn in a upside down horse shoe. this will create a semi U from your stand. back up 40yds, then when they come in and eat in a half circl with all of there heads clumped together start blasting. Guarantee to kill LOTS of pork! VERY EFFECTIVE

VERY EFFECTIVE good idea! .... i shot some 1oz rifled slugs out of my remington 870 express 12 guage (w/ full choke) the other day and was accurate to within 3-4 inches at approximately 40 yards. i was pretty surprised.
