That thing was a waste of money, used it a few times but when it is calm and you need movement the stupid thing is way too loud however tomorrow it may just be enough movement to keep it from freezing back over after we break the ice in the shallow end of our lake. I may have found a use for it afterall.

http://www.mackspw.com/ItemList--Mallard-Machine--m-1373I love em, never have thought it's too loud. And they do work for keeping the ice out of a hole.

feeder butt with a bilge pump under it? It's more of a prop end of a trolling motor facing down with rods coming out of the sides to attach to decoys. As it propels downward it tries to take the decoys down with it thus putting their rears in the air like a feeder.

You are right Fowldreams, it has four decoys attached to it and it propels water up causing a big comotion. We have it attached to a car battery which is a pain to bring. It might be worth the effort in the morning though with the ice.

Been thinking about gettin one over the years, but have heard mixed reviews most of them bad. They've finally come down on the price of them quite a bit though, and I've seen some in Cabela's bargain cave for around $100. I'm just wondering, do you think a 4 wheeler/tractor battery would work? How hard are they to set up?

The set up is very easy, we leave the decoys attached to the motor. You just throw it in the water attach to the power cord and hook to a car battery on the bank. We also spliced a trolling motor on/off switch in the power cord so you can turn it off.

thanks for the info. I may pick one up next time I see one on sale just to have it. I've found a small hole recently that could really use some water movement.

Our dogs have never messed with it but it was worth its weight in gold this morning, kept the hole in the ice we made from refreezing and put a lot motion in the frozen pond. 4 limits before 9:00.
