270 will get it done, but if I can only have one I'll take the 30-06.

Own both, but if it were only one the 30-06 would be the one.

,270's a great round, no doubt, but I had to go with .30-06. I can get core-lokts from 125 to 220gr and take care of just about anything.

For game smaller than elk, 270 hands down-the ballistics are simply better. Now if I planned on going after moose, griz, etc-then I'd go for the 30-06 of course.

I like my 270 WSM. If not then just a plain 270.

We argue this every year, dont we?
I read once that there are 2 types of people that shoot the 30-06. Those that know nothing and those that know everything.
That being said, My first choice is my 270. I have used it on everything from elk down and the old girl never lets me down. I used 150 grain Nosler partition and 150 grain Barnes X on my first 2 elk and they both worked very well.
Talent is a gift, character is a decision.

I've not owned either but have shot both. I would go with the 06 because of the wider variety of bullet weights.

What's next, Remington vs. Savage? Ford vs. Chevy?

When the option is only 1, then it has to be the 30-06.

If you had said for whitetails only, I'd have taken the 270 over the 06 any day. But, if I'm going to shoot a 600+ pound animal, I'll take the bigger piece of lead anyday!
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I'm surprised this is as close as it is. .30-06 via versatility.
