We'll be putting in our Spring plots in early March. Putting anything in this time of year risks loosing it to a hard freeze. Like we'll be getting this week.
We plant spring plots in March, and then put in our fall plots in Sept. Not saying that's the only way, just what works for us.

I recommend going and having a soil analysis done first before you plant anything. This will give you an idea on the quality of your soils. SFASU and I believe SHSU offer soils testing for cheap..Also your county extension agent can have them done very reasonably. After you get the results you can base your food plot decision on that. Since it will be small it would be plausible to work with your soil and not break the bank.
Right now you're at the tail end of getting away with planting clover (If I remember right that is an august-dec planting) and it blooms out around mid march. Soybeans should be planted here in about another month and a half..around the first of March..
Or you could go with one of the mixes from biologic..but I'm not completely familiar with what all they've got in them. I'm sure their website will have plenty of info.

Sounds like I just need to spend my time now picking the right spots for the plots, testing soils, preparing the plot areas for planting in March ?
I will be planting small plots so as I understand it Soybeans or peas is not the best thing for small plots ?
