Anybody heard about this. DNR in Wisconsin is trying to kill every deer in a 300 mile radius in one area. I watched a show about it on the Outdoor Channel last night. sounds like somdbody's going off half cocked. Here is one web article I found. http://www.caids-wi.org/

Wisconsin is a "Blue State" so science, rational thought, and fiscal responsibility can be considered into the solution. Simple answer

Well I guess if the main concern is CWD then you gotta do what you gotta do. Weird deal I guess.

TPWD told the old woman that owned our lease (we still have the lease but she's dead) that if she didn't kill a bunch of does that they would send people in to do it. She told TPWD that she would shoot anybody that tried. TPWD backed down.
You'd think that they would have pursued it but apparently, that family has some clout. The County Road is paved untill you get to our property line and then it changes to dirt. When you leave our property, it goes back to paved road. She refused to let them pave the road because she was afraid that the big equipment would mess up a big spring that comes out of the ground right beside the road. Again, she took on the Government and won. She's dead now but the road is still dirt.
Anyway, the point of my rambling is that Wisconsin isn't doing anyting that Texas doesn't do. I had a neighbor some years back that participated in a TPWD slaughter years ago in Central Texas. He said that a line of shooters walked the property killing every doe thay saw and leaving them laying. He said he personally killed well over 100 deer in one day.
I wasn't there and don't have any pics but I don't know why he would lie to me about it.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

The show I watched showed members of TPWD and TTH up there trying to find out more about the rationale behind it. They are worried that the act will spread to other states when there is no scientific proof that it is necessary. They actually tried to infect cows with CWD and could only do it by injecting it directly into the brainstem.

A 300 mile radius in Wisconsin sounds like the whole state not one area.

Its called chronic wasting disease, and the same thing would be done here in texas if it ever happens to be found here. CWD is bad stuff and the govt. will use extreme measures to attempt to eradicate it. This is why its highly illegal to transport deer and other cervids (members of the deer family) into texas from other states.

A 300 mile radius in Wisconsin sounds like the whole state not one area. It's not a 300 mile radius. It's a few counties in south central WI where they had a knee jerk "eradication" zone for the CWD craze. I am amazed at the difference in Texas Game Management and how the WI DNR runs their show. WI wardens and the entire DNR are just insane. Texas wardens sure seem to get along with hunters and actually seem to care about doing the right thing. The SOB's up in WI are thugs and revenue agents from hell! Not to mention their re-introduction of wolves that has decimated the deer herd in the northern counties. I'll not be buying a license up there for the first time since 1974. Thank God for Texas. Pray we don't take any pointers from Wisconsin.

I saw that show and was appalled. One scientist claimed (IIRC) that there has only been 400 cases of confirmed CWD in the whole USA. He stated we loose 70K deer a year in Texas to blue tongue and anthrax and you don't see us decimating an entire species from an area? The problem is that the only way to test for CWD was to test the brain of the dead animal. What happens when they kill all the deer to protect the state from this disease and none of the dead deer had CDW. They still don't have any deer because they wasted them. They were also destroying the carcass. what a waist.
It is one thing to drastically thin a herd by shooting does, than shooting every single animal in the area!!
