Hello all, My name is Michael and I have a problem. I am obsessed with duck hunting and I am trying to bring down my Dollar spent at Bass Pro per duck ratio. I am currently walk-in public hunting in DFW and appreciate those who do the same respectfully. I enjoy reading these posts and will be contributing more throughout the season. I rescheduled my Jan 7th eye surgery until after Jan 24th so I don't miss any days. I am hoping someone can help out with my brother in law issue. Here goes- My brother in law is from Odessa and returned from his 2nd deployment in Iraq in November (currently stationed in Florida). He reports back Jan 4. The only thing he has ever asked of me - minus my sister - is to put him on some ducks while he is in DFW for Christmas. I told him we could get him the public permit required and I would take him tomorrow and Saturday but they are not taking his Hunter's ed deferral in place of the certificate. He paid for the hunting license and we're still stuck without his permit. On top of that, he won a Mossberg 935 at a DU banquet just before his first deployment which still has not tasted any duck blood - hasn't even been shot. If anyone has a couple of spots that don't require a special permit then please let me know or if you can give me some advice then please jump in. I have decoys, a mojo teal, and Dwadr we can bring along. Here are some pics if I can get them to work correctly so you know who you are dealing with. One is of me from a group Rockport hunt last year and the other is my BIL in Iraq. He's in the blue shirt.

Geeze, you would think active military should be exempt from hunter safey requirements. I'm sure he has been trained to safely handle a weapon.
If you don't mind driving a couple hours east you can tag along with me tomorrow.
Can't promise a lot of birds, they are scattered because of all the rain.
shoot me a pm if your interested. Will need waders and be willing to stand in water over your belly button.

I've read that they wave the hunters ed for active military? Maybe that was back in AR.
Two_out_front, that's where I'm at right now! Sitting at the office. What days are you wanting to hunt? I might be able to swing it, depending on how things go at work. Always try to treat our military right, one of my good friends is a marine that just spent his 21st birthday in a C130 on his way to a second deployment in Afganistan.

Thanks for the welcome Rollins and Kingbert.
My folks are still in Longview and I'll be around there on Sunday morning.
For anyone who does end up helping, I'd be happy to throw a thank you token your way.

Just seeing some blood on that gun and a smile on his face would be plenty for me! I might be doing a hunt in the morning about an hour from here if y'all are down, it'd be a quickie, I've got to get to work, the sooner the better. The conditions should be good.

I just saw this or I would have hooked up with you guys for tomorrow. I'm always up for taking a military guy out. If he is still going to be around this weekend and you two want to go let me know. Just need some waders. I can't promise you a long walk-in or having to get there at 2am for your spot or having someone come in at the last minute and crowd you or having someone making some wierd sounds from a kazoo 100 yards away from you or some skyblasters scaring every bird out of the county. If you can live with not having to deal with all that goes with public hunting and want a simple private location that is a 55 acre wetlands, you let me know. It would be out by Seagoville (off Hwy. 175)
If you can't lick your own, you can't sit on the dog stand!

I've got waders in size 10 if need be, no leaks either!
Wish I had some good spots, I would take you for sure. Either way give him a big thumbs up for me and tell him my family appreciates his service. Screw what any of these hippie liberals tell him, we do care!

It wasn't the best hunt as far as big ducks working and it took a little longer for the ducks to work right over the decoys but we managed to have a great day. I was glad I could take this soldier out for a hunt before he heads back to Florida. Here's a pic of Two Out Front and his Bro-N-Law

Big thank you to No Tox for letting us tag along at his place. Matt has never seen ducks drop in like that in his life and hasn't stopped talking about it. You definitely made both of our days and we appreciate everything. I am glad we bagged those ducks thanks to our "expert marksmanship".
Will you PM me your home mailing address?
Thanks - Michael

You should change your username to NoChoke! Quite a feat putting together a productive hunt, on short notice, for a member of the armed forces about to return to active duty. You must have been feeling a little pressure knowing everyone would be looking forward to the outcome. Others may have wanted to help but you are the one that executed flawlessly. Well done NoTox!
