I just got a Darton Apache bow, 55lbs-75lbs draw, last night. Trying to find some info on it and I'm having no luck. Anyone know how to tune these?
On the draw weight, how many turns out from tight (screwed all the way in) can I go out saftely?
How do I change draw length? It looks like there's adjustable cams on the boss string, labeled 1-4 that are different sizes. Is that my draw length adjuster? Which setting is longest, which is shortest?
I'm guessing it's a mid 90's bow and Darton's website doesn't go back that far or have much on it that looks similar to my model.
Anyone have any comments/complaints on these bows? Anything I should look out for?

I have an old wrangler. Would suggest you take it into a pro-shop to mess with it, preferably one that deals them. Alternatively, call Darton's customer service and get them to help or send some reference materials, I bet they have an old electronic copy of a manual for them. There is no magical formula on how many turns you can back out a bow - what I would do is crank it all the way up and put it on a scale - my suspicion is that with a bow that old, you'll not be getting the full 75lbs. You can then start backing it down from there & monitor the weight. I wouldn't go below 60lbs on it till you get in touch with Darton. Don't touch the modules until you contact Darton either. Tinkering without knowing can be a pretty good way to blow up a bow.

Much appreciation! I think I'll try and track down their customer service line and give them a call.

I’ve got a Darton Excel, which probably came out around the same time as the Apache. I’ll look for the pdf file I have, which has information on my bow as well as yours. PM me your email address and when I find it, I’ll email you a copy. You can look for it on line, which is how I found it, if you don’t feel like waiting.

1. You’ll need to go to a Archery shop that can assists you with tuning the bow. Ideally you want one that deals with Darton, but a reputable shop should be able to take care of you.
2. Have the pro-shop adjust this for you.
3. The cams that are labeled 1-4 are for the different draw lengths. Again, this is best left for a pro-shop.
4. There is none; the cams that are used with the bow, will adjust your length. You have to have a bow press and know how to switch them out.
5. It is a 90’s bow
6. Decent bow for its day.

I’m shooting my bow again, and just adjusted the pins for 35 and 45 yards. I don’t see me taking many shots past 35 yards, as you can see the arrow in flight when shooting the 45 yard target(slow bow speed). However, it is still an effective bow and until I do more bow hunting it will have to do.

Your best bet to get the bow tuned and set up for you is to visit an archery shop. Buy a string from them, and when they put it on, they’ll help with all the other things you need to do, such as a peep site, draw length, etc. (note: it may need to be ordered, but shouldn’t take more then a couple of days to get in.)

I messed with the draw weight on it over the weekend. Think I got it set pretty good. Draw length seems to be acceptable right now, maybe a bit long in the teeth. I've seen some online and your right, it seems to be a 90's bow, late 90's. As far as shooting it, whoever had it before me did a good job on sighting it in. I was nailing a bullseyes and a few inches off right out of the box! Nice and consistent (any strays were operator error). I'm super happy with it. Gonna take it to a bow shop and have them fine-tune it for me later this week.
Thanks for all the input guys.
