I used to have several cheaper calls around my neck. GF got me a Daisy Cutter that has replaced them. There's no going back.

Depends on where I am but my "go-to" has quickly become my Buck Gardner Spitfire. From there it goes to a Carlson Championship.

Blowing DC's right now while I'm learning. Doesn't take much air and they are raspy. Had decent luck with the Picker and the Sarge. Also blow a DC mallard whistle. When I feel like I can call a little, I want some RNT's. Those are the sweetest sounding calls I've listened to and I've listened to all of them.
Messing with a buddies Alpha 2 right now. I tried to self tune and messed up the reeds so waiting on replacements to get it to run right. I put some back up reeds in and it doesn't sound bad, but pretty flat still.

You have to trim the reeds to the same length as the ones you removed.

I have a Haydel DR85, RNT rainmaker (double reed) and RNT pipe (single reed). To be honest as a newbie the Haydel is easier to blow. The RNT's both whistle and I don't know why I need to call and talk to them because I love the sound of them but they just whistle. I have had a couple buddies that know how to call try it and they whistle for them too.
I do have a DC whistle...their whistle is a good one.

Guess I should clarify that..Cuttdown is hanging around my neck-but so is Brown Sugar-Dc and a redLeg and Olt and a whistle for Haydel. Cuttdown just happens to be the second one I used since duck hunting ..The first call I ever used is no longer made..after 42 years of Duck Hunting somethings change somethings never change..
Since we dont have the ability to post pictures on here without "hosting" it from another site..I will just put up a picture of the call ..lets see who can get the names of the calls right.I will give you a hint ..one of them is really really old..kinda like me..LOL
Why can a person not Browse their own computer to post pictures on here..or am I doing something wrong.I am new on this site and it dont work for me.Give me a minute to post the picture on my website.

You have to trim the reeds to the same length as the ones you removed. I'll probably call them when I get the new reeds. It took a lot of air to start that Alpha 2 and I didn't like the sound it put out. It was just noisy, not ducky and no real volume. I adjusted both reeds and never really got it like I wanted. I don't expect it to squeak like a single but I was hoping for more range and control than it had. If you have some RNT experience, give me a PM.
