Well, everyone here at the house except me has had a flu type virus for the last couple days. I can't sit here anymore. Going to hit the tank for my first afternoon hunt in about an hour.

Lucky you!!! Wish I could knock out of here and go. Someone has to make a living though.

Good luck and hopefully the IDing will get easier. It should in all this sun shine. I'm a new guy at this myself but have gotten decent at IDing. PM me if I can help you with anything. I have some files saved on my desktop I found on the net. I can point you in the right direction anyway.

txfour - Good luck and shoot em in the face. Dont listen to people on here that like to make themselves feel cool and make themselves feel like good hunters for running people down. Keep learning, studying and always keep a positive attitude. Thats what makes Hunting and this Forum so much fun.

Had a really good time. Tonight was really about seeing where Zeke was. He has been on injured reserve for a while and I have yet to hunt the young lad. He's nearly 7 months old now and was anxious to see how he would do.

I went to a tank on one of my pieces of property that I knew had ducks ( I see them every day I feed the cattle) and knew this was a magazine shot and that was it. Sure enough, I took the over under, shot twice and two ducks down. The rest, hauled the mail to somewhere long away.

Anyhow, since this was Zeke's first hunt and I told him about 10 times before I shot to sit (and he did), he looked at me confused when I sent him for the bird. After several seconds of coaxing and throwing a rock by the bird, he goes in.

When he returns he has this look about him like "ooooooohhhh, this is what we have been working on for the last few months".

We go to find the other bird which was wing shot on the other side of the tank. By the time we get there, the duck is gone. I start walking up the slough and the bird begins flapping and running away. It was on for Zeke, he was off like a bolt of lightning. He gets the duck and hustles back to me.

Anyhow, all the other ducks were gone but Zeke felt like the king of the world. He did absolutely awesome. Two Gadwall hens in the freezer.

Tried to use the blackberry camera but it would not save the pics. Had fun either way.

Jason

And to the OP....I would let others do the shooting on your dogs first few times out. You need to concentrate on the dog work..along with other things like bird id'ing. Keep him steady, let him mark, and then you wont have to walk him out there to get the ducks....since walking him out to the ducks defeats the purpose of having a dog in the first place.

Glad you got on them. Also, glad to hear Zeke is doing better. Sounds like he is starting to figure it all out, that is great!

Really??? They lock your first account and you create Clark #2???

Dude, I live in a town of 400 people, we have no red lights, Our complete school system from Kindergarten to 12 grade is around 200 kids, I graduated in 1990 with a class of 11. The nearest store is 20 miles away. How many effin duck hunters you figure we got around these parts? Shut your pie hole and go back to the rock you came out from under.

Anytime you guys (not clark of course) are up in the sticks give me a heads up and we can go hunt. I have probably 1000 birds or more. Just need a ton more dekes and more people to make my 12 acre private lake work better.
