others will know better how to preserve it, but you can definitely freeze them and take it later.

I would post this question down in the taxi area. They know best.

I have frozen birds up to a year... although I don't recommend it. Just tuck the head under a wing and wrap them up in a few bags real good is all I do. But the sooner you get it to a taxi the better for sure!

i had a woodie in freezer for 2 years. You have to make sure you wrap it right. Talk to a TAXI and they will give you instructions.

I talked to Matt at Birdworks on Saturday and he said if you use a heavy duty freezer bag a year will be fine.

Biggest problem with waiting years in the freezer, is freezer burn on the skin and the feet drying out/freezer burning. I wrap the feet and bills with wet paper towels rolled around them and it seems to help the feet from drying out and getting brittle. Once the skin freezer burns it has no elasticity and is pretty worthless to mount, but if it is wrapped good it could still be OK to mount for a yr or 2 in the freezer.

put the bird in panty hose or wrap it in newspaper and then place it in a garbage bag in the freezer until you are ready to get it mounted. thats what my taxi told me. the birds will keep for a goodwhile, but still try to get it to the taxi asap.

I'd say the main reason to get it to the taxidermist ASAP is to get in line! Most taxidermists are full up through hunting season, and the wait is at least months, sometimes years.
