I went out today to a buddy's lease around Gordon. We tried for a trifecta of ducks in the morning, turkey during the day, and doves in the afternoon.

The duck hunt was great with everything frozen up. He doesn't know it but his pond is REAL ducky with a good shallow slough full of groceries feeding into a small deeper pond. We had GWT, Spoonies, Widgeon, Gadwall, and later a couple of Mallards trickling in. I finally was able to get my first bald plate of the season.

After the morning hunt we had 10 ducks and wanted to setup for turkeys. Sat patiently until 3:00 and nobody wanted to show up. We decided to take the dekes back to the big pond and try to finish our limit and then head to the small pond to shoot some doves. Right before we were going to call it and head for the doves a couple of mallards come in cupped up. DONE!

We only managed three doves, but it was fun trying anyway. My buddy was shooting lead for the dove hunt, but I didn't want to chance anything. I hadn't ever shot doves with steel, but I had some #6 shot left over from early teal. Seemed to work OK, but it was weird standing in the woods wearing waders hunting doves. nuts

I think you were in the right shooting steel, I believe the law reads you can't have lead in your possession while duck hunting.

Nice mixed bag hunt!

Very nice day for you.

Skunked on duck and dove today for me. I'm glad it's not turkey season here grin

It was a blast even though the turkeys didn't show. After we got home my buddy checked his card from the game cam setup on a small pond. A big group of turkeys had been coming in every day right around 1:30 like clockwork. As it turns out, just a day or two before we hunted they stopped coming in. hammer

No tracks in the snow either. Later we found some by a feeder way on the other side of the property. I guess with all that snow they don't need to find water.
