Going out Thursday, and its looking like light snow and 15-20 north winds. Our blind is setup on the South side of the pond and the North side is out of reach shooting wise. So my question is how do we set up our dekes???? Any help would be great. Oh yeah there is no way that we can sit on the North side.
Thanks

...abandon the blind. Set up on the other side of the pond.

You can always set up go a cross wind. Be ready they will be coming in hot with that wind.

If the pond is not that wide you can set up your deeks starting at 40 yards out. That way the birds will be landing from over you between you and the deeks.

I would abandon the blind if at all possible and do soemthing else because birds do not like to go over land to hit water.

i had the same problem........set up on the norht side and get a couple 4x8 camo nets and lay ont he ground underneath them. Used blind bags for a head rest.

or stay in your blind on the south side and set up like wal said...they don't like to fly over the blind either, but stay very very still and make sure you have good cover if you stay in the blind. Might try using the camo netting over your blind and then throwing it over your heads when you want to shoot.

Tree I am going to tell you right now that is last resort at best. Your asking the birds to get right on top of you and they will alrready be jumpy if they get close to shore as it is. If you can at all possible get somewhere else then I would. Most folks worry about the sides of the blind. I would rather have a blind with a top then I would with sides. Mallards are notorious for getting above and hanging there looking for us.

Again I hate Gander Mountain but I bought two guide series a couple years ago on sale for $119 a each. I bought a used on the other day for $50 bucks, the aluminum pipes had been broken.
I went by my Bro in law's shop and took him to lunch while his welder welder the pipes. Works like a charm now. Look at used on the forums and you might get a really good deal.

If possible, dig a hole to sit in on the north side and bring some camo to cover up. Make the area look as natural as possible. You definitely want to take full advantage of a strong north wind. Plenty of opportunity to shoot them in the face and not the azz.

Hey Wayne. It would be a he!! of a lot better if could get away from the office. It's been pretty good, I really thought it was going to be excellent this year but between the water levels going down fast and birds moving late it has been good overall. I'm not complaining considering last years results. GR and I were talking about hitting the coast for some redheads, do you have some time in January to get away? I heard about your hunt in OK, you lucky dog. I hope you and your family are doing well. Have a Safe and Happy Holidays!

How about next Tuesday we meet at the coast? I am going for a 2 or 3 day hunt and I can almost wrap a mountable Redhead up and hand it to you where we are headed.

it helps alot if you can dig in on the bank and then stuff a layout in the hole or pull the burlap over you.

I would like to be able to sell them but I use them to often. I got the third one becuase I knew I could fix it and I have guests quite often that don't have them. When I really use them is river bottom hunting off of a sand bar.

Keep checking the classifieds, they are posted all the time for about 50 % off of a new price. I am one who refuses to pay full price for anything until I have exhausted all of other means of being cheap.

I don't like to hunt the north side of our place. Wind doesn't really effect the birds there too much. A few birds will land near the north dam but plenty land where they always land which is near our blind on the south side. On a north wind I just put the decoys out a bit further to give some room for them to decoy.
