I shoot 140gr from a Tikka 7mm. I've taken 7 animals with this rifle/bullet combo. In each case, this round gives me a small entry wound and small exit wound. This results in a loss of very little blood. On the three that ran out of site, this is a problem!! The others either dropped where they were or didn't go beyond 20yds. Only one animal was not recovered.
Is this typical of BST's or is this a bad rifle/bullet combination?
Thank you for your ideas!

Parker,
I used to shoot a 7mag, and the one and only deer I shot, it put a hole about the size of my fist in her chest. I was shooting Winchester Supper-X 150 gr in my Savage 110 7mm Rem Mag.
You may want to look for a different round, if you're losing your deer because you're not getting a blood trail.

Yep same problem out of a 270wsm. Kills them really dead or they run without much blood.
I went to the accubonds with better luck and actually better accuracy. Bullet looks the same

+1 on the accubonds. I ran out, switched to 130 grain accutips in my 270. i shot a deer three times in the chest this morning, only dropped on the third one. The bullet holes were all less than a quarter in size. Thats the last time i shoot those.
Bullet choice is way more important than caliber. If those are not working for you, switch before you lose another deer.
As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind...Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks--Thomas Jefferson

Whatever I am shooting, I want a big exit wound!! If that bullet was opening up correctly, you sgould have a tennis ball size exit with a 7Mag 140gr.
