Hunted the coast a bit last year, but mostly over mud and sand. I'm headed down to the Rockport/Fulton area, and was curiious about protecting my labs feet from oyster shell. Do you all have any recommendations (other than don't hunt around oyster reefs) on boots?

Regarding boots . . . do they hinder the dog's ability to swim?

I saw some dude hunting on YouTube and he wrapped his dog's feet with duct tape. Seems kind of crazy, but the video showed that it seemed to work.

there was a thread about this about a week ago. I know someone said they use duct tape. others use boots.

Stay tuned...

Yea I've heard duct tape works good too. Just get some athletic prewrap so it's easy to get off.

I always wondered if the boots inhibit swimming or not.

I have hunted over oyster shells many many times. Trust me when I say this.

Oyster shells will slice through neoprene dog booties like a hot knife through butter (and will slice through your waders just as quickly).

Duct tape is the only way to go. Duct tape is able to resist the sharp edges of oyster shells. Just be sure to use athletic tape under to make removal easier. And be extra careful when cutting the tape off of the dog's leg.

Good luck!

Edit...Your dog will be able to swim very well with the duct tape. They will just look very funny walking on dry ground.
