The run ins with GW thread got me thinking. I average about one or two checks a year. This year I've already been checked twice. About four years ago I was checked twice by one GW in the same spot but different times....the second time I asked him if he remembered me and I'm not sure he really did but then he said yes and didnt check me but ended up giving me a ride back to my truck.

I've personally never gotten in trouble for anything and have nothing but good experiences with GWs. What about you...how many times have you been checked and have you had any bad experiences?

I never got checked up until a few years ago. Now I'm sure to get checked at least twice a season the last couple seasons I've got checked about 5 times. I've never had any bad ones personally. But my buddy Trey left his license in the truck a few years ago and got a ticket(got dismissed though obviously). Then last year him and Michael both didn't have their hunter ed cards, and it wasn't on their license(got dismissed again) Other than that things have been good.

Got checked on the only hunt I've been on. Got a ticket for failure to identify sex of pheasant because I just breasted out the bird after the hunt the day before and forgot about leaving a leg on it. So far I've been hunting once and it has cost me $200. Go figure

GW's were nice though...

Get checked 2-3 times per year and only had one bad experience.

Christmas morning three years ago and it was butt arse cold out. We were duck hunting and were very well camoed up and dead still. Had some geese coming in low to the spread and ready to land but then they all flared at 70 yards. We were like, "what the heck?" Minute later the GW walks up from behind us and says "sorry about that boys, guess I scared em off." bang

Don't know how sincere he really was... scratch

Proceeds to take a looooooong time checking all our licenses, guns, ammo and ducks. All the while birds are flaring.

Think he was angry he had to work.

Other than that they have been cool. Just doing their job. I wouldn't want that gig. Working alone and walking up on groups of individuals with loaded guns that may or may not be breaking the law. No way, not for me.

Three times and always legal. Once on my boat on Lake Alvarado; once in a rice field at Katy; once at LBJ Grasslands.

been checked twice.

have gotten two tickets. one for hunting over bait, and one for hunting with lead.

just kidding. The first time was in a field goose hunting. As he was walking across the field, birds started to come him. He got down on the ground, completely laid flat and put his green jacket over his head. This was in Michigan in January. We worked the birds into range and shot a few. pretty cool.

The only time in Texas, we were walking back to the truck after a long walk in hunt. He checked us and gave us a ride.

Got checked once last year (my first year hunting). I didn't have the state stamp. He was nice and let me go with a warning. Needless to say I went and bought the missing stamp the next day. I guess that is what i get from buying my license from a girl at acadamy that had no clue what I needed, but the responsibility falls on me for not being 100% certain what I needed.

Got checked two years ago and got a warning.

My PawPaw and me were coming in from a dove hunt got the boat loaded and decided to stop and talk to the GW because PawPaw knew him, he then asked to see what we shot and everything. Then asks for our license got mine out and I didnt know i had to have a hunters ed course to hunt private property. The funny thing was as he was handing my warning he goes "Tell your mom this is a graduation present from me." He was very nice though, Ive seen him three or five times since then and we always chat it up after a hunt.

I've been checked a handful of times, but mostly while fishing.

While on the banks of the river during the white bass run. See the GW walking up. Get ready to show licenses and whatnot and he says "How yall doing?" and walks right by on his way to some nospeakyenglish types. Have had this happen numerous times throughout the years.

Back around high school time we had a group out dove hunting and the local police came and checked us. They thought we weren't supposed to be hunting where we were but we had permission from the city. Quick license check but it happened right when a huge flock of dove was coming over.

Another one back around high school time we had just put my friend's jon boat down a pretty steep cliff into the river. Get in and we just start paddling and the GW comes around the bend. He comes closer and asks us where are life jackets are. We were like crap, we knew we forgot something. We tied off the boat and one friend stayed with it when my other friend and I high tailed it back to the house and got the vests.

Another time we were out on the lake in a friend's jet boat. GW pulls up and I think he got a ticket for an out of date fire extinguisher or something.

Just the past summer the gf and I were out fishing. Just about dark when I hear a boat and see running lights coming at us. I was about to get pissed but it turned out to be two GWs. One of them starts to hop out onto the "platform" we are fishing from and I tell him to be careful it's pretty slippery. Well I guess he didn't hear me because he ends up busting his @ss. His partner starts busting up laughing and we did our best to hold it in (didn't happen). He checks my license, all good. My gf thought her was in the car so she ran up to get it. It wasn't there, but we gave all her info. They told her to make sure she had it with her next time.

I've never been checked while duck hunting thus far.

+1 Have not been out this year yet, and not sure I will get to, but in previous years I usually see them a couple of times. If you are legal and nice you usually won't run into any problems. They can be real helpful too.

All my checks have been at the processor or dove field. Not too many duck hunters in our part.

Got hit last week. All went good. They are real nice until its time to get nasty.

Its funny because I fish on the lake I hunt on through the year about 50+ times and Never get stoped. They dont mess around on hunters.

I've been checked so many times that I've lost count. The local Brazoria County GWs would come hang out at the local WMA checkout or meet hunters at their trucks. It was not unusal to get checked out there 2 or 3 times a week depending on how often you hunted. I remeber getting checked 2 times in one week. I seen some dudes get tore up out there by the warden. Thought they were shooting mallard hens.... They had 6 birds.... all mottel ducks. They searched everyhting those guys had, truck and all. Needless to say they was in trouble.

Got checked a couple weeks ago at Granger, no problems there. Get checked fishing a few times a year.

Only issue I've ever had was with the local federal warden in Brazoria County. He's a short guy and is usually very short with folks when talking with them. Walks all the way out to where I was hunting at the former Peach Point WMA with my buddy. We say him comming from a long way off and when he got close we unloaded our guns and set them aside stood up and waited for him. I think I was only about 18 at the time. He walks up and was kinda rude, just giving us orders and what not, No hello or good morning. Proceeds to check us, goin through shell bags litterally scattering stuff around. Tearing open boxes of shells and spilling them everywhere and randomly checking them with a magnet. Checks my buddy's gun and he dont have a plug in a gun he had barrowed. He gets taken to the GW's truck for a ticket and I get to keep hunting.

Got a ticket when I was a kid for hunting dove off an ATV.... I knew better but I was being a dumb kid. Even with that experience the GW was very courteous and professional.

My overall experiences with the GWs have been good.

I was goose hunting about 10 years ago with a guiding service and our guides mis-counted our geese. GW was watching from about 1/2 a mile away and hit all ten of us with $200 fines a piece. The guides ended up paying for all of them because of their counting error.
