The are very hard to decoy. Can you do a pintail call? You need to be hid very well. And when they fly off, watch out becuase they will come back when you are not ready and bust you moving!! hammer

put out geese dekes in your spread to get the pintails to come in.

Proabably you were not doing anything wrong, that is just how pintails are. First I would pull the mojo and just make sure you are well hidden.

i agree with pulling the mojo. Geese do not like mojo's at all and most of the time pintails are flying with geese. I bet they picked up on the mojo being a bad thing.

ya pintails are real decoy shy birds. i was standing up eating a snickers bar one day kind of looking around, turned around to look at the decoys and had one more. dad burn pintail snuck in and set down.
threw the snickers on the ground, bent over picked up gun and pulled trigger.
funniest darn thing that i have ever seen.

I was picking up decoys when I killed my first Pintail last weekend. Never heard the bird come over. I was pickup my my deeks and looked up and saw him. HOLY CRAP! I was only 6 feet from my pit blind, so I ran over and hopped in. I hit him with some quacks, he circled about three times. He came in low on the 4th pass over the decoys. I reached over and picked up the Browning Gold and BAM...folded him like the Duck Commander.

One of my more memorable hunting experiences.

Got my only pintail on a passing shot where he came in to look at the two spreads (yes two) of dekes in front of me. Sailed 100 yards into the mud. Good to have a retriever on days like that.

just stay as hidden as you can be and do a pintail whistle when they are circling. if they start to drift away do some mallard calls they ussually at least turn to circle again and then hit them with the whistles until they commit. or use a box skybusting

Very shy birds that fly high. I hit one last weekend but only because he was flying low in the fog.

I'd use the whistle.

Pintails do hate mojos imo. Unless it's early teal season, then they want to land on the damn thing. It also helps tremendously to have pintail dekes in the spread, and as mentioned the whistle. If they are flying away giving them a good comeback call with your regular mallard call. When they turn back to you get back on the whistle. You can expect them to circle at least 5 times. I try to take the first shot they give me even if they're just flying by.

The pintails on our place get whistled to death so they are pretty shy to them. Stop whistling and they come right in.
