Is it really that good? Been wanting to try the Duck Commander load(3" 3's), but have have always had great success with Drylok 4s. Anyone have enough experience with them to verify them being 5 bucks a box more?

good stuff, just cant justify the price.

picked up a case of RIO steel shot before the season for $100 and it kills em just as dead with a good shot.

Is it duck season yet?

I'm a new believer in quality shells. bought some value shells in an able ammo and couldn't hit ANYTHING, seriously it was bad. BlackCloud is some pretty good stuff though

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

I do agree on avoiding the cheap stuff, I used to always say a shell is a shell, but No more. I've started shooting Hevi-Metal lately, and I'm a believer. Couple bucks cheaper than black cloud at bass pro. $21 for 3" shells. About 20% denser than steel, but cheaper than some of the premium steel (drylock, nitros, etc.)

You know Hevi Metal shells have both hevi shot and then regular steel right? When you get say #2 shot...that's what the steel is but they match it will smaller hevi shot which comes out to be the ballistic equivalent...at least that's what they are trying to do. So really what you are paying for with Hevi-Metal is a denser pattern.

I've heard that twice, but I haven't seen anywhere on it that it is a duplex load. I'm just gonna have to cut one open to see for myself. My understanding is that there are no 100% "steel" pellets, and that they are just some sort of alloy that is denser than steel. Saw somehting on their website that said steel was like a 7, and hevimetal was like a 9. Some density scale. I think the old hevi-steel might have been duplex, hevi metal is different.

As for the shell debate I've killed plenty with the cheapest and plenty with more expensive loads. There is a difference but the differences are often very slight and in many cases what you killed could have been killed with a cheap load or an expensive load just the same.

IMO it often comes down to what you are confident in...yeah it's more mental than anything. If you are missing with a cheap load it's easy to use that as the excuse. Other times we are shooting better and then use the shell as the reason.

If someone doesnt believe in a shell then that's the last shell they should be shooting because if you are thinking about shooting and hitting something it probably won't happen. I had a guy ask me one time...so what are you thinking about when you are shooting. It actually kind of set me back because I didnt know...but then I figured it out...when I'm shooting at a bird or something I don't think...I just point and shoot. Kind of like what they said in Top gun...if you think your dead...but in this case if you think what you are shooting at probably won't be dead.

By the way I'm pretty stoked I got a top gun reference in this post. Gutsiest move I ever saw man.

Oh and black cloud #3s...I like em.

Read this link. If you can't figure out that it's a duplex load from here, well...I'll keep my mouth shut

Blocked at work, I'll get it at home. I just haven't done any research on it, only read the box. I believe you. Still gonna cut one open to see what's in there! You think the duplex is an issue?

It depends. The old Remington duplex turkey loads were great. I've heard bad things about this Hevi-metal when you put it to paper though.

I thought that was the whole point, just for patterning? It's one of my least favorite things to do (patterning), I usually try to get a feel for it by the way the birds are dying.

It's one of the most important things to do when you try a new load out.

I know, I know. It's just such a chore. And for some reason the shells are a lot louder and kick more when you're shooting paper?
