Had an invite to hunt on my son's high school buddy's family place in Columbus. So took 2 days vacation Thur 12/3 and Fri 12/4(my anniversary). Thursday morning saw young 4 point and later before leaving the stand at 9 saw a small 6 point and a spike didn't shoot 6 point not legal and spike didn't present a shot.

Got back in the tripod stand at 3:30pm and about 4:15 a doe came out to my left about a minute later another doe showed and few seconds after the spike I saw earlier in the morning showed. Double checked to make SURE it was a spike as Colorado county is an AR restricted county. Just as I was about to shoot he turned and gave me a bad angle and then chased one of the does back into the woods. Missed my opportunity. Well maybe he will be back the other doe is still hanging around.

About 5-10 minutes later the chased doe rejoined the other doe and started eating corn that had been hand thrown the night before. The spike didn't show at least that is what I thought at first. Grabbed my binoculars and started looking back into the tree line and saw movement, ok he is back just not showing himself yet. After a few minutes he is at the edge of the tree line with a good shot angle but there is a bush just a little to close to where I would put the bullet in his shoulder for an exit behind rib cage on the opposite side. Wait time again.

Finally he steps out and stops just long enough for a good broadside shot, trigger pulled, bullet hits, buck jumps 6 foot in the air with a big mule kick and takes off. The does are still standing there wandering what was going on, so chamber another round, one doe gives a good broadside shot pull trigger, bullet hits, doe's left front leg just hangs and she runs off. Both deer hit hard. Blood trail a blind man could follow found both piled up 50-60 yds from where they were shot and about 15 yds from each other. Ruger 7-08 and Rem 140gr corelocks done their job.

I have all ways heard of people shooting two deer this way but never experienced it myself until Thursday. This was a little long but wanted to share.

Gotta luv the 7-08 its what I use. I neck shoot them and they dont run anywhere. Where we hunt down South you dont want to have to trail them in the thorns.
Try it you will like the advantage of a neck shot.
Congrats on your trip. up

I love my 7-08 too!
