I was lucky enough to get drawn for for a rifle hunt on the "Chap" 7 years ago. The best advise I can give you is take a tripod and follow the rules. Don't be afraid to hunt the units close to the headquarters that is where the best bucks live is what we were told when the hunt was over.(no one chose those units). There are some huge bucks there you are very lucky. Also don't be a dumba** like I was and pass up a great buck because it is the first time out. I passed a very nice 8 point on the first hunt that I had dead to rights. It was 20 inches wide and very heavy but I went with a picture in my mind of what I wanted and left with nothing. I saw lots of good bucks but they were all right at legal and I was afraid to put one on the ground that would get me in trouble. Good luck I hope you spill some blood.

one other suggestion hunt a drainage. the drainages are marked by dashed lines the best I can remember on the maps they give you. if you an get where drainages cross a sendero even better but definatley take a tripod.

Couple of tips... Hunted there about 4-5 years ago
1. This is not an easy/slam dunk hunt 2. SamH is right... The big bucks might be anywhere (close or far away). 3. We hunted East Guajolote (great pasture). Long also has a great reputation 4. Take your lunch and sit in the stand all day. I did that on Thursday and saw 22 deer between 11a and 1p. 5. Another tip besides hunting a drainage... hunt an intersection of 4 senderos. Sit where you can shoot any direction. Be ready to stop a deer crossing the sendero with a grunt or whistle 6. Have a great time. Fantastic hunt. I didn't kill anything but had a wonderful time 7. The tent camp area was better than my expectations. 8. Ask one of the assistant biologists for tips on where to hunt. Brandon was extremely helpful to us.
good luck and post your results.
