i bought a redbone coonhound approximately 4 months ago. good dog... but she's turning out to be more of a family dog than the hunting dog that i want her to be. she's VERY skittish... has a dominant urination issue (it's getting better) but hates to go outside other than to do her business.

when it's cold or wet she won't even step off the porch!

i was wondering if anyone on here has any pointers on how to get her started (she's about 6 months old now). I'd really like to meet someone with coonhounds around my area to maybe meet up with and show me some pointes. i'm in san angelo.

Give me a call. I hate to put it like this but she is going to take a lot of time if she is ever going to make a hunting dog. I've rehabilitated one before, very rewarding if you get it done.

Btw, what is she out of? (ped)

redboneman,

thanks for the response. unsure of the pedigree because we got her from the pound. I actually got in touch with the person who dropped them off there who assurred me that the mother and father were purebred. he said he had a litter to try to sell, but he didn't hav eany luck. only sold one, so the rest went to the pound. he said the mother was registered, but the father was not.

when she's in the right mood she'll chase everything she sees, birds, cats, etc.

i'll try to give you a hollar this weekend sometime. i come to san antonio often so maybe we can meet up.

i appreciate any insight you can give me!
