I had 2 keys that I got with my 4 wheeler when I bought it. I lost one so I took the other to Wal Mart to get some spares made, and the guy tells me I have to call Honda, give them my serial number from my 4 wheeler and order them from the factory, that not even a locksmith can make a spare. Anybody know if this is right or is there somewhere else I can get spares made? I'm going to check with a locksmith in the morning, just wanted to see if anybody else has had to do this. Seems like a locksmith should be able to make a copy....

I was told when I bought mine that was what I would have to do to get another one made. (What the Wally World guy told you)

hello,
i used to work for a honda dealership for many years so this will help. walmart will not be able to help as they do not have the key blanks that will match. they mainly carry automotive and house key blanks. the atv key blanks are much shorter. the vin number or serial number will not do you any good in an attempt to get another key cut. if you still have one key, look at it right where the protective rubber boots stops. there should be a 3 digit code stamped on the key which will be 1 letter and 2 numbers. Call your local honda dealership and ask if they can cut keys there. if they can, they will need that 3 digit number. thay key code tells them what key blank to use and the cuts that will need to be made. They may ask you to bring in some form of paperwork to prove that you are the owner of the atv. If they can not cut a key there, you can go to just about any locksmith and they can trace cut a key for you. but, it will not be like the original key, they are usually longer and will not have the protective boot on them. If you still have problems, for whatever reason that may be, let me know and i will attempt to help you further.

Thanks txgun44, just left the locksmith and he was able to make some copies. They are longer than the original like you said, but I checked them and they both work so I'm good to go!!!

I loaded my Honda quad on the trailer and headed for the lease and when I arrived I couldn't find my key. Pushed the quad off the trailer and pulled the ignition apart and thought about hot wiring and then called the local Honda dealer who asked for the 2 numbers and 1 letter and said my key would be waiting for me to pick up. Now I know why so many people steal these things, and I was told by the same guy that there r only 4 different key cuts for my 2004 foreman

yeah, there are 2 different key blanks that it could be. there are 4 different cuts but those 4 cuts can be used in many different combinations.

I went to the locksmith and got copies made, but they are longer and don't have the rubber boot....
I always keep an extra set in my glove box of my truck.
