what a night/morning

got to the lease at about 1130 PM. As we were pulling in my buddy says to me " oh s**t there are lights on at the cabin. ( the cabin is literally 20ft from the waters edge of the body of water we hunt) We couldnt see any trucks or cars so we hoped that somebody had just left them on before leaving the land. ( there are hunters out there that have the deer rights to the property and some who have bird rights) so we hoped it was deer hunters that had just left them on. So we parked the truck put our headlamps on and headed to the waters edge to see where we wanted to put the layouts in the morning. As soon as we got to the waters edge headlights came on and started on their way towards us. Turns out it was the landowners grandkids ( good ol Dublin, TX boys) they were wasted to say the least and had been out there since right after Thanksgiving lunch. Our hearts immediately sank as we knew they had been making lots of noise on the land and especially right close to where the ducks are. We decided to make the best of it have a beer with them.

130 AM brush the layout blinds out and then head to the camp grounds to set up the tent. Get everything set up and lay my head down at 2AM

530AM alarm is going off and its go time. get up set the decoy spread, check the blinds and make some last minute touch ups.

Legal comes and NOTHING is happening. Finally about 7AM 6 Teal bust the dekes and we each drop one. 10 minutes later a lone Pintail comes in and i fold it. for the next half hour as ducks are trying to come in, they flare right before shooting range. We cant figure out what it is finally we look over at our other buddy and hes got his whole head outside of the layout. we fix that and singles and doubles decoy nice . We end the day with 3 Pintails, 3 teal, 4 widgeon, 2 gadwals and of course 2 spoonies.

then things got real ugly. As we are picking up the dekes i hear 2 splashes directly below me. I check my pocket and realize my cell phone and camera both had just fallen in the water. after 20 minutes of search the bottom neither of them turnup. so now im out a brand new Iphone and a new Cannon digital camera bang

all in all it was good to be back in texas and hunt while it was at least chilly out. Its weird hunting down here in Florida on 70 degree mornings and 80 degree days.

no pics (due to my genius deecision to carry the phone and camera in the pocket but just thought id share the story and good times with everybody on here.

Welcome back Alex, glad you had a good hunt (minus the loss).

It's not skybusting, if you make the shot.

Try putting that camera into a bag of rice. It is supposed to draw out the moisture. Tip I learned after ruining my Canon.

I donated a blackberry to the lake this year as well. I also dropped my buddies keys in the water the same morning not knowing it and got lucky and found them while sticking my hand on the bottom. Should of bought a lotto ticket that morning.

2 weeks ago we had 2 phones and a camera destroyed on one subpar hunt.

I have enjoyed my time without a cell phone grin
