Hey guys, I promised I would write a review of the HC Ranch in Mt Vernon, so here it is. Like the other hunter that was not happy I paid to HUNT both deer and hogs. The first morning on the stand at 610 there were about four doe literally right beneath my feet, but to my luck doe season doesn't start in that county untill after Thanksgiving. they are a spike only or larger than 13 inch spread rule in that county. So at 720am a 3 year old buck comes about 75 yards and it looks like a spike on one side, so three times I scoped him and touched the trigger, but didn't. On the fourth look I saw a little and I mean little stickler on the ohter spike, so now it is a 4 [point and not legal to take, but i saw deer. That afternoon Bob put me on a stand to hog hunt, and I saw two different set of hogs and I mean a lot of hogs. I shot and killed 3 three, two went into the thicket, now this is when the story gets interesting. Bob came a little after dark and said wait I am going to track the other 2 hogs that ran into the thick. in about five minutes he comes back dragging A GOOD SIZE SAL. The he goes looking for the other one which i thought i had missed because it was hiding behind a tree but there was blood and he disappeard into the night and the thicket. About 10 minutes later I hear Bob shoot twice with his pistol. Now I am worried because we all know what a wounded animal is like. Bob comes back, his shirt shredded from a big boar and welts all over his stomach and blood everywhere. The hog i shot wasn't the big boar, but in searching on his hands he knees, he found mine still alive from my throat shot. he shoots it twice on all fours, but he doesn't know the 250 pound boar i saw is right beside him, he comes underneath(remember he is on all fours crawling) flips him over then all the other pigs in that batch of 20 all trample over his stomach and chest area, but he still came out with my hog. When looking at his shirt there is a gash from a 6 inch tusk going from the middle of where is chest plate his out to the armpit area, man was he lucky. Now I had a great time, but one thing I forgot to mention that I took my wife and 1 year old son with me. The next morning I went deer hunting again sitting in a ground stand open with brush. At 856am three doe walked to the end of my 7MM and just stood there looking at me for 30 seconds. I had full face camo mask on, I could have really poked the deer with my gun, but again it is not doe season there yet. The food there was better than resturant quality, my whole family enjoyed it. Bob's wife Doreen and my 1 year old son had a great time. Bob took my little boy around the ranch looking at the stands before we went hog hunting, he loved it. The next evening my little boy got fever, so i could have taken plenty of hogs, but with a 5 hour drive at night with a sick baby, i decided just to wait until next time. Ratings-5 star being best Food and Friendliness-5 stars Hog Hunting- 5, it is so much fun, my first time, i will go back and take 3 other friends with me Accomadations-4, but only because I took my family, by the plans i talked to Bob about for the near future, I would say go enjoy yourselves. Deer Hunting-5, even though I didn't shoot one, I saw deer every time, just my luck wasn't within the hunting season there, If i had went after Thnaksgiving, I would have used all my tags. I saw big buck tracks ebeverywhere, but this was free range hunting, no feeders for the deer. Referral- I would definetly recomment this place if you like to hog hunt, and have patience as a deer hunter, I will be back in January or February. For the price of 250.00, you get excellent meals, all drinks included, lodging, and four hogs. Can't beat that price anywhere. I am also a disabled hunter Thank you, Jerry Hart

Jerry, Sounds like you had a great time. My buddy and I were at HC Ranch this last weekend hunting hog. While our weekend wasn't quite as exciting as yours - we had a great time and had great hunts. Bob and Doreen really make you feel at home, and go all out to make sure you have a good hunt. The food was fantastic, the accommodations were great, and we saw plenty of hogs. I got 2 hogs - one was 155 lbs and one was 92 lbs. We saw deer, along with the hogs - but since we were interested in the piggys, we paid the deer no notice. We had a great time, and will definitely be back. ~Doug

what i like is you can take up to four and if he is overrun sometimes he might toss in a shoal or two extra at no charge(shoal-small hog 40-60 pounds). I will be taking at least 3 people next time i go, can't wait

Bob and Doreen are good people. I have hunted with them a couple of times. You get a great hunt and a very fair price. I really recommend their operation. My kids loved it there....
Thanks 6As

Hey guys, thanks for the great reviews. As for your questions about fenced or not.....we are both. We have 150 acre heavily wooded with thick brush and we have free range bottom land, heavily wooded also, both of them are loaded with hogs. Thanks, Bob www.hunterscreekranchnetex.com
