Starting a thread for my newest build. Dropping a Springfield Trapdoor action in a Thompson Hawken frame. 45-70 Double set triggers Buffington rear sight Inspiration... And another...

Very cool and very interested to see the results. I have an original Trapdoor and it is an extremely well made weapon.

The rundown so far...
Picked up a barreled action from Jeff Lee @ Lee's Gun Parts, Irving, TX (great guy, tons of impossible to find stuff at his place) First breach block had the firing pin frozen forward. 2 days of soaking, 4 hours of drilling and 5 cobalt bits later... Back to Lee's for another breach block! Also picked up the Buffington rear sight while I was there and a spare firing pin.
Cleaned up the barrel and dropped it off with a buddy for some Butch's Bore Shine treatment.
Still debating on the barrel/receiver finish...cold blue distressed with bleach or maybe experiment with different ratios and temps of Vinager for a dark gray finish.
Put my Thompson Hawken on hold at Classic Pawn in Rowlett, TX.
Also need to decide if I am keeping the brass or aging it black.

I should have taken some pics while I had it mocked up but its torn back down now. Stock has been inletted. That was WAY more work than I expected. The hardest thing was the hammer. I see now why Springfield designed a "conversion hammer". Had to grind the inside of the hammer to match the side profile of the stock. Then had to cut out a relief in the side of the stock for the back of the hammer to fit in during its over-travel to the "full [censored]" position.
Torn back down for sanding, touch-up blue, brass aging.
