Anyone here have one of these cheapo (sub $300) Amazon plasma cutters? Looking for something for smaller jobs I can put in the jeep at the ranch and run off a small generator. Are they worth a crap?

I don't know, but I would think with tools like plasma cutters, welder's, ect.... you get what you pay for.

But I may be wrong!

There was a time that we bought about a half dozen gensets and about that many trash pumps. Within a week the majority of them had committed suicide.
Now this was 20ish years ago, but the upside of this story is that HF accepted the broken ones back with full refunds.
Check their return policy and good luck!

I have the 50 amp plasma cutter from Amazon. It is supposed to cut up to 3/16, and it will if you take your time and I mean go very slow and have a good supply of air.

Harbor Freight now has a 90 day warranty.

I've been close to buying the Lotos on Amazon but haven't ever pulled the trigger. It does have solid reviews and some good video reviews on YouTube. However, I also check craigslist frequently and have seen many Hobart and other name brand plasma cutters for a bit more than the Amazon offerings. If I get one, I'll probably get a used one from a trusted mfg on craigslist. I will probably also check TSC for deals because I bought my Hobart mig from them when it was on sale for a crazy deal.

It’s a crap shoot. If I were in that spot I would go with whichever unit I could stand to buy from primeweld. Their customer service is top notch and the reviews on their machines are almost all good. I’m waiting on one of their 300 amp tig welders to get here

I have the 50 amp Bestarc from Amazon. It will cut 3/8 steel pretty easy if you have the settings right. I built this motorized rail system for mine a couple of years ago, cutting some 10 ga.

I bought a Prime weld from amazon, 60 amp and it has been flawless, I know Bigpig also bought a multi machine, but don't recall the brand and last I heard he liked it.

I have had hobart, miller and hypertherm. Hypertherm ran less then 30 minutes and the board blew, got about 3-4 years out of the hobart and miller. This time I didn't want to spend over a grand for another "name brand" when I could go thru almost 2-4 of the knock offs, really sad it is that way. There are obvious quality difference, like the work lead, but I can deal with that if I saved over $700

One thing you need to verify if you're going to use a genset, many require clean ac, so you will also need a sine wave/ inverter style genset
