The 223 shooter was sponsored by Nosler, so his bullets were free. So, cost was not a factor in his bullet choice. His only cost was brass, powder and primers, which all 3 is very cheap for a 223.

Good post. As long as you are intimately familiar with your equipment, ballistics, etc, many calibers and cartridges will work.
Just like when you show up at the golf course and are paired with an older gent that uses a 40 yr old putter. You're fixing to get your [censored] kicked.

He did finished about the same spot the last time he was at ro with a 223 but I think he was running 70gr rdf then. Fun fact the match winner at ro only had his barrel like a week before the match. Running an impact action he just called up wade and bought one of his off the shelf barrels and boom. Granted he won the brawl last year running a straight 6br at like 2700fps so it's sufficient to say he shoots well.

Very well said chad. Like another said about the hunting corollary. I went to colorado a few years back and Small hills seemed like Everest and I couldn't breath. The 338 lap I was carrying with nice Bushnell glass kicked my a$$. Focus on the craft and you'll become an expert yielding the tools.

Great post. I can agree with the mindset and see the need for myself to shoot more with my equipment.

An excellent discussion. When discussing the effectiveness of various calibers, I have made the comment before that "a lot depends on who is shooting it". To my way of thinking, working out what your particular rifle does and then getting to the point you can do it is where separation occurs.

^^ I agree. I know several rifle shooters who have about 3-5 high end precision rifle set ups. They bring them all to the range to "dial" them in. The interesting thing is as a whole, those rifles only shoot ok. Not enough time or effort is put into 1 rifle to get good with it or dialed in to shoot really good.
