I don't see any reference to it here, so just in case anyone has missed it, ATN announced their Feb. 2017 firmware updates for certain products. I run the X-Sight II HD. The download went smoothly.

"Dear X-Sight II HD Users!
Here are a few improvements included in the newest firmware update:
New Features
1. Bluetooth X-TRAC Tactical Remote Control - Activated.
2. Bluetooth Laser Ballistics Smart Range Finders - Activated.
3. Import/export profiles to/from SD card.
Improvements
1. Improved Display performance.
2. Improved Night mode performance brightness in “High" mode
3. Added External power supply indicator.
4. Improved Ballistic Calculator.
Bug fixed
1. Fixed - Device hangs after HDMI cable disconnected.
2. Fixed - Incorrect displayed value in the distance widget.
3. Fixed - Unable to stop video recording when battery is low.
4. Fixed - Hangs the device when going in zero setup in BC mode.
5. Fixed - Does not return the original value of the zoom.
6. Fixed - Hangs the device during move reticle on max. zoom in the reticle setup mode.
7. Fixed - Reset the RAV mode if SD card was found with Firmware on it.
8. Various Other Bug Fixes."

Wow extensive patch , does this mean the previous firmware that shipped with the scopes was a BETA version?

Pig_Popper, I couldn't answer that question for you! I know there are a whole lot of folks who feel that ATN has been using their customers as BETA testers since the first X-Sights came out. Every firmware update they've sent out has contained a whole lot of "fixes" along with just a few "enhancements." Whatever a person wants to call it, it's certainly not been a role model for new product announcement and roll-out. As an retired IBMer, and having watched a few product roll-outs before, I can tell you that it looks to me like the Marketing Department was so eager to get the X-Sight family out the door that they were allowed to run rough-shod over the technical people! The tekkies were probably saying, "wait, this thing isn't ready for prime time yet!" And the Marketing folks were saying, "we need this new technology out the door and into the market place, NOW!" And, as usual, Marketing won. . . Pretty sad.

LOL, the consumer does not care about the internal strife of a company.

But I think Mike is pretty close on what went on. Admin and marketing jumped the gun, built it up and pressured engineering to make it happen when they were prolly never on board with the timeline to begin with. Typical scenario and it ruined what mediocre reputation the company had.

I'm not a defender of ATN, but as a retired engineer I've seen plenty of products that were released and subsequently updated.

I got an MBA later, and gave the standard engineer's lament to a professor about my job at the time "There's never enough time to do it right, but there's always time to do it over" He replied "All engineers say that!" A company must have sales to survive, and a product needs to ship in order to generate revenue. Not all bugs can be detected prior to release.

I have no connection to ATN in any way.

2.

Maybe not "all" bugs.......how about just a few. They've been upgraded firmware for 2 years.

And I guess Apple and Microsoft updates are all just improvements not fixes for anything? For the most part there is no perfect software out there.
Software and firmware being the same thing which is a program.

It seems for the most part that other digital optic companies are bringing products to market that do not need constant fixes.
Does software sometimes have glitches? Absolutely.
But comparing your home computer that people are always trying to hack to your digital scope is stretching it.
I'm not saying things are perfect or that they all have the same bells and whistles, but advertising features on a product that after this long still isn't fully functional? Well.........

Just my opinion, but I think it's a question of ethics. And because of the competitive nature of business, the lowest common denominator seems to rule the day in the tech industries.

I think its good a company will continuously look for ways to improve their products and then follow through with those options in the form of firmware updates. To be effective for the long term, anything computer related needs that as an option for the future.

The firmware update is pretty solid. The biggest improvement was turning on the Blue Tooth for the Laser Range finder which arrived int he mail today for me, and now being able to save your zero profile to your SD card.

It also improved the already good image quality through the viewfinder for my X-Sight II and Thor HD.
